For a 2028 2nd-round pick? Hell no (IMO) ..........

He's a Cowboy for a min 2 years
His current salary is $3.9M, and the 2027 franchise tag could be approx $23M ( 2026 is $21M ). That's about $28M over 2 years for an average $14M per year for a solid top-10 CB.

I'll make this deal every day............

Terrance Newman vibes.......never had a lot of interceptions but rarely gave up TDs

Hes a top 10 cover corner.

He is not a ball Hawk.

A second in 2028 is the equivalent of a 3rd in 2027 per draft trading charts.

If he isn't extended they likely pick up a 3 for a compensatory pick.

This is stupid.

Imagine if we traded for a 1st round pick how happy they'd be!!! Damn we just can't win!!!!!

For a 14 game rental? Way overpaid. Kneejerk reaction by Jerry.

it was either that or continue to focus on mad maxx, Pitt is bad right now it seems, you got players snapping on coaches. Big mike may not make it to the bye week lol

Essentially a 2027 third round pick plus a sixth. Overpaid? Of course not. I can't believe Steelers keeps allowing the Cowboys to steal their lunch money
Here's the kicker. He turned down 27 mil/season from the Steelers and is a UFA after this season. You sure we didn't overpay?

Guys who are coming up for contract are available for mid round picks all the time, often very good players.

And think about this. What do we need? LBs and maybe edge rushers, right? We pay Porter and all that goes out the window. Did we overpay for a 14 game rental?

I disagree .......... what would you have offered?

Not sure how it's a 'kneejerk'........they started talking with the Steelers at the beginning of TC.

A 4th or so.

Only way the trade for Porter makes sense is if we are super bowl contenders and needed that final piece.

Hey, maybe it can work out if we sign him to a huge deal and push the money down the road. However, Porter just isn't worth top dollar for a CB. He's generally viewed as a top 10-15 CB, not top 5. And he's specifically a man press corner. And we play 75% zone.

It's a kneejerk because it's a trade using high draft picks to desperately try to fix a D that has been terrible. Not sure how having talks w/ PITT about him for a while makes it not a kneejerk.

Consensus outside of Cowboy land seems to be Jerry overpaid. Why would we expect anything different.
Did I read that right, a 2028 2nd round pick? The consensus is they overpaid because they don't believe Porter is a top tier CB. What top tier CB is being traded for a 2nd round pick two years from now?

Wow, 2028 second rounder? That does change things for me, just didn't realize that. Hmmmmmmmm......gonna hafta rethink.

So he was sitting out being a diva about a new contract in Pittsburgh but he isn't going to do that in Dallas?

He's at least top 10 and to be honest, I would NOT entertain a new contract until 2028.

Only way this'll work is if we pay both Porter and Pickens and push most of their money down the road and knock the draft out of the park.

If he comes in and changes the face of the defense then easily worth it. However, I have a hard time believing that a CB, even a good one like Porter (whom I actually liked a lot going back to his draft) will move the needle for our D. Especially with the rules the way they are. If he comes in a picks on some passes and alters some games then he will have been worth it. For now I think it was a bad, typical overreaction and a 1990s perception of the impact a top CB on a game move by Jerry. But i sincerely hope I’m wrong.

Not according to NFL analysts who generally rank him around 15-20. ESPN left him off the top 10 CBs list. PFF ranks him 36th among CBs.

Porter was a 2nd round pick, so he will be a FA after this year. Are you saying we should franchise him? That would prolly cost us Pickens, you OK w/ that?

Keep in mind, the Steelers are set in their ways...........especially when it's time to pay their top players.
