Our run defense gave us a chance

Can be happy and still hope that the defense is able to improve to more of the middle of the pack type.
That’s probably a 2027 expectation.

The talent and coaching last year was even worse than it looked, if that’s possible.

A finish in the low 20s as a unit with them showing consistent fight would meet my expectations year.

Defense was awful once again today. Houston killed themselves with penalties and we still gave up scores on 6 of 11 Houston possessions.

We simply cannot always win games by expecting 30+ points from the offense.
But we had extra power jobs because we stopped the run. They didn't use 7 minutes on every drive. That gave the offense time to get it together.

They still need to improve. Don't need for them to be the 85 Bears but if they can at least hold opposing offenses to an average of around 23-25 points per game then this Cowboys team has a chance to win many games this season with our high scoring offense.
One good pass rusher would improve be this defense 10 spots. Quinnen with a good edge rusher would be scary.

Not true at all. We had 10 drives today vs Houston. We had 11 against Baltimore last week when we gave up 190+ on the ground.

On average you get 10-12 drives per game. Outside of week 1 against the giants the cowboys number of drives has been normal.

This stop the run talk is great, but it doesn’t really matter when you give up 350 through the air.

Just how good we are against the run is debateable
we did a good job on Henry last week but Jackson killed us
until we can shut down both the RBs and the running QBs we are not there yet
Here is my question, where is that success and failure coming from? Its looked to me the last few games that the interior has has been playing the run well. After a rough start to the year, that aspect has come around. Our edge contain needs to get much better. Gary has been a dud up until today, and today he wasnt tested by a running QB. And the other edge defenders are inexperienced. I think edge contain has killed us as much as the MLB's.

Why run the ball when you can pass with ease?

The pint in making is, we played awful against the giants. We only had a few possessions. The run defense has gotten better every week. They means our opponents had the ball less time. If you stop the run, you get more possessions. That gives you time to figure it out on offense. Our run defense was bad in week two but it wss awful in week 1

yeah, Jackson just boiled us alive running around the edges

And it’s simply not true that rushing success and TOP are directly correlated. I can also give up a 50 yard TD run and get my offense an extra possession.

I think we way overrated TOP. We’ve been so starved to stop the run for so long now the pendulum has swung too far back in the other direction.

I’m very happy the run defense is showing promise, don’t get me wrong, but if you can’t stop it without also stoping the pass it really doesn’t matter. I’m way more concerned with reducing the number of scores we allow.

allowing 28 points a game is not going to get you anywhere
