Special Teams Coach. still not impressed

......I heard Broderick was the guy who Whiffed on the dude blocking it.

That's not coach fault. Player didnt do his job.
Special teams coach needs to prepare his team better. 2 different players made the same mistake, his unit underperformed last season, and they make constant mental errors that are putting our beleaguered defense in adverse situations.

Given the units fall from grace under his coaching, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it...

He sucks, his because history with the Cowboys says so.

Kickoff and punt coverage teams were excellent today, not sure what you're talking about. Yes, they gave up one big return, but apart from that, they pinned Houston to their 15, 8, 24, 17, 20, 14, 13, and 28. That's terrific and was not a small part of why they won.
Attempting the 65-yard FG with 30+ seconds left in the half was one of the dumbest calls I've ever seen. You do that with <10 seconds left, not when there's time for them to score after a miss.
Houston had several penalties on kickoffs that make those numbers look better then they were. Two kicks out of bounds the last two weeks, two blocked FGS the last two weeks, Turpin running half speed after the catch all the time....the list goes on.

It was an odd hire, given that his only previous experience was as the special teams coordinator for a Jaguars unit that finished 30th in the NFL under his leadership.
He was a STs player.

* Offseason or practice squad member only

Touchback with 7s to go is unbelievable clock management. Any type of return means at most 1 offensive play instead of 2. A good return e.g. to mid field likely means time expires.

100% thats was on the HC and it was criminal to do.. you can not give them that at half for the second week in a row. I need to see him start learning from these because if i need an Adult on the sideline to help him i dont need him.

I was talking about coverage teams in my post. Creating penalties is part of good coverage. And the returns with penalties weren't anything special before the penalties were applied.

Looking at DVOA, updated through yesterday's games, the Cowboys rate 6th overall on special teams and 2nd in kickoff coverage, so that certainly supports my observations. The odd thing about the new kickoff rules is that kicking it out of bounds is barely worse than a touchback. So if using the landing zone as effectively as Aubrey has so far comes with the risk of the ball skittering out of bounds on occasion, it's not ideal but probably a pretty good tradeoff overall.

Also by DVOA, Dallas is 6th on punt returns and 8th on kickoff returns. So I don't really care if you think Turpin should be running faster: he's been a very effective return man thus far.

You have to give Schotty the opportunity to learn from his mistakes. I mean, he's just 52 years old and he's only been around football for, um, 52 years.

So a bad STs coordinator in Jax and awful Def. Coordinator in SF. What could possibly go wrong with this hire?

exactly if we come to the conclusion he needs a "Parent " behind him on those desicions then we should probably move on...lol
