Maybe the long-ball magic is gone and we need to stop trotting him out there regularly for moonshot FG attempts?

He did hit 4 of his previous 5 from that distance (since last Sept.) so hopefully it's just a slump he can work his way out of.

Killer 6-point swing at the end of the half in Houston thanks to the confidence we had in Aubrey.

Some of his misses have come in games nobody cared about. Washington last year. Giants last game. And the 2 Vikings misses..... we can argue if that Vikings game had much meaning after we pretty much lost our playoff chances vs the Lions.

But that Ravens block was costly. But it was blocked. I don't think a blocked field goal is on the kicker.

The Cardinals miss you can argue could've been valuable too. Our season would've played out different.... if we head into the Vikings game 7-5-1..... we could've gameplanned differently, had a different sense of urgency against the Vikings, Chargers, and Giants.

So it's good that he's missing these in games that are perceived as low import. The 2 missed last week was exacerbated at the time, but saved because we won. It did bring to light the fact that we really need to address this right about now. One of them was blocked, but the other one was missed and didn't look even close.

Maybe don't send him for those long attempts unless it's end of half or end of game...... or it's when we really have absolutely no choice.

I had a feeling this would happed. Kickers are like no hitters and fight club.

This is necessary context:

“Ok let’s break this down two out of the last 3 were blocked, two of the misses were 65 and 68 (insane distances), and two were outside in freezing temperatures the only really bad miss on here was that one against Minnesota at home I’m not concerned”

schotty needs to stop with the ridiculous long attempts when in a battle of field position- it’s bad coaching
100%

A punt is not a bad play. Particularly when you can pin a team deep, and we have a punter that can do it.

Sorenson should have been fired last year IMO, and the fact we have had 2 blocked kicks in as many weeks underlines that point.

Schotty is aggressive at the wrong moments and conservative at the wrong moments.

Tired of the 60+ yarders that end up just giving the opposing team free points when we miss or it’s blocked.

Also maybe….just maybe stop trying to trot him out there to kick these long kicks unless its before half

Too many times Schottenheimer settles

Sorenson is the true issue with Aubrey, Turpin's return game issues, and the return coverage as well.

He needs to be replaced as soon as possible.

So, remove the two blocked kicks which aren’t necessarily his fault and he’s made 5 of his last 10 kicks from 57+ yards. Further, when you look at the 5 misses (non-blocked), they were from an average distance of 61.4 yards.

Gimme a break.

Might help if we can block for the kid

Worst FG protection we have had in years

Considering the weapon that Aubrey is you’d think we would make that team as robust as possible

Joke of a team

Is Aubrey Just A Kicker now? (JAK)
Did JJ get bamboozled again with the big contract?

I am leaning towards no. I think his performance is a direct result of a bad ST coach.

I think some are missing the point. This is less of a knock on Aubrey and more of a knock on the person calling for the lengthy FGs. Even with a top kicker these remain low probability plays fir a variety of reasons.
Schotty’s decision to go for the 65-yarder before the end of the first half against the Texans was egregious. You can’t give them a short field to then turn around and kick a FG.

Mind-numbing

Missed and blocked are not the same thing.

LOL .....close the thread

did ya miss the one he hit from 55 this year ... right down the middle and going at least 15 yards beyond?

Hilariously, I just looked up who was the most 60-plus yard field goals made?

Wait for it ....... Brandon Aubrey

maybe a bit of research before bringing your takes here to the grown ups.
did you miss where 55 < 57?

we all know what aubrey’s done historically, which is why it’s worth pointing out as potentially worrisome what’s happened MOST RECENTLY. clown

I think the bigger problem is our head coach not understanding situational football.

The decision to attempt a near 60 yarder at the end of the first half vs the texans is a good example. That blocked fg turned into a six point swing.

If it had been with just a few seconds left, no problem, but with that miss, there was still time for Hou to turn it into an opportunity of its own. That was a decision not seeming to understand the situation.
