Cowboys still haven't recovered from Parsons trade yet

And remember, the deal was rushed to begin with, since it was unplanned for. If it was the plan all along, we could've found another sucker besides GB to give up more. In the end, I think we both, Cowboys and Greenbay lost on the deal.

When players are traded for draft picks (I know we got some players) the entire transaction can't be evaluated 14 months later. Judging the defense post Parsons also includes a lot of rookies and new defensive coaching staff.

For the record, the Cowboys won the trade. Getting rid of his contract was a good thing. And having him on the team now wouldn't have made much difference. We weren't significantly better with him.
The bold is spot on. Is Parsons a better individual player than anybody in the front 7 now? Most assuredly. But we had seen the ceiling with him and needed to do something to break that ceiling.

I felt the same about signing Dak the last time. As with Parsons, we know the ceiling with Dak. That's not completely on Dak, but it's obvious that a change is needed to break that ceiling. It's what a well-run organization like the Eagles would do.

If only we would treat more prima donnas the same way.

I agree that we got worse.

Talent wise: We basically traded Micah for Quinnen Williams. The draft picks and player swaps (Mazi for Clark) basically cancel each other out.

Micah is much more of a difference maker than Williams. It’s not even close.

The biggest reason we appear to have more talent now is because we’ve been aggressive in trading for and signing players (JPJ, Gary, Miller, the safeties, etc). But those players haven’t really amounted to anything. JPJ has the best chance to turn into a star, but we could’ve easily traded for JPJ and kept Micah.

Well we could’ve had Micah sitting on the sidelines right now injured for a year so not sure how we’d be better in that scenario either

This isn’t about discussing whether it was a good trade or not. I think we have exhausted that discussion.

No doubt we received much in compensation . But what we have received thus far hasn’t enabled this defense and team to fully recover.

If anything this defense has continued to decline and it’s much worse in last two years than previously with Parsons.

So, do we have to wait another year and draft to begin to recover and rebuild this defense. Do we have the right coaching in place. Was our trade for Q the right use of resources???

Right now I’d argue we have more questions than answers and we haven’t recovered from Parsons trade yet.
The down fall of this defense started in the last part of 2023 season and it continues to get worse. Wrong drafts. Wrong players. Wrong trades. Wrong coaches. Wrong schemes.

Take out the word Parsons and replace it with the word Quinn and I completely agree. We haven’t been the same since Quinn left. Another poster said it earlier but when every player regresses then it’s coaching. When Micah was still on the team after Quinn left our defense was awful and Micah regressed.

We can't judge the trade but we can judge the impact of the trade. Since Parsons was traded :

32nd in defensive EPA
32nd in success rate
32nd in explosive plays allowed
31st in rushing success rate

The fact is the defense has been pure trash since he left the building. I suspect that there is a compouding effect bc we lost DLAW at the same time. In any case, Dallas has made all the wrong moves on defense since the 2024 offseason and that includes draft picks (excluding 2026 which only have 5 games to show).

I said if we didn't do anything with those picks as a SB appearance and GB didn't, I'd call it a wash. However as I look at it now ,If we traded all those picks and this team is just as bad I'd call it a loss. Still too early to decide but it doesn't look good.

Parsons wouldn't be playing anyway. Guy is part time and only about himself.
