Some thoughts to ponder looking a few months down the road in 2027. What moves could the Cowboys make to the roster and salary cap? Let's start with the 3 worst contracts we are all complaining about. We'll get to Dak in a minute.

I spent some time at Over The Cap and this is what I found. If the Cowboys cut DaRon Bland, Jake Ferguson and Terence Steele after the 2026 season, the big question is how much 2027 salary-cap room they would create after accounting for dead money??? If my approxamite numbers are off a little it won't impact the message.

Player - Projected 2027 cap hit - Potential 2027 cap savings - 2028 dead cap hit

DaRon Bland - $19.46M - ~$13.0M - $6.46M
Jake Ferguson - $10.60M - ~$7.0M - $3.6M
Terence Steele - $15.23M - ~$9.0M - $6.23M

Totals - $45.29M - ~$29.0M - $16.29M

The Cowboys could free up roughly $29 million for the 2027 season, but the savings come with a future cap cost (not bad and the salary cap will of course only go up) and the need to replace three players which is huge concern. Or is it? Are there players on the roster who can step into their roles? Use the money on FA's. Draft their replacements? All 3???

Another reason I looked into all this is the big elephant in the room. Dak is scheduled for an $86.03 million cap hit in 2028.

Who the hell thought that was a good idea?????????? Yeah I know....

Then the zoners wouldn't have anyone to ***** about next season!!
But, pretty sure there will be new players the zoners will find for that in 2027.
Youve been here long enough to know they’ll find someone  anyone

Even me…..

“Jay Ford aint defending nothing!”

Or

“The big mega JayFord needs to be fired thread”

If things continue the way they are, all those players and MORE should be gone. Call it "blowing it up" or w/e but there's no point to holding on to any of those guys plus a lot of others.

Luepke, Bell, Overshown, Hooker, Turpin, and Schoonmaker , New list building EZE and Revel, Let's just name a few But they will complain about them if they're still here so there 'd be plenty to complain about trust me I mean it..lol

You only get 2 June 1st destinations per season so doing all 3 is an impossibility and that's before being able to remember if they already used one or not!
Bland's dead cap is 21.5 and Steele's is 25 plus.
Either would carry a much larger 2nd year hit than most teams are willing to deal with much less this one.
Ferguson is maybe doable but I haven't seen any indication that anyone in management is interested or even passively thinking that way!

Most of that list yes go ahead and cut them I don't care to look back It's time to move on but rest of this season I'd like them all demote not cut but take a lot of reps away from them I mean first and I moved to TE 3 Seriously he's still there both weeks he needs to slap on this he needs a slice of cold water in his face So do some of those others Terrence Steele Bland all of them need reps take it away they no longer to get starting reps.

Can’t see any trade value especially with those contracts. So just release them and move on.
I guess if Dallas eats some of the contract money, they could get late round picks.
And still get the cap savings.

Any chances they can trade them this year by the deadline. Very doubtful.

I think Steele's 2027 salary of $9 M is guaranteed. That is a CAP hit unless they can trade him. If they trade him his salary is the problem for his new team, but $9 million is not a lot for a potential starter at RT. If they can trade him the Cowboys get a $ 1,575,000 CAP save.

Cutting Bland and Ferguson would also be net CAP hits unless they are cut post June 1. The number is somewhere around $3.2 million for the both of them. But that would get them off teh Cowboys books for 2028 and beyond. Trading Bland and Ferguson doesn't hemp the situation since they have no guaranteed salary in 2027.

I believe all of them can be traded, the value I am not sure about. But if the goal is to get them off the books, I think trading them for anything is a plus.

If it were me, I would look to draft a new RT in 2027 and If I get one I would immediately trade Steele to anyone willing to take him. But this is Jerry who is pulling the strings so my guess is they keep him one more year because Jerry hates admitting he was wrong about another player.

I would also trade Bland and Ferguson. If the Cowboys can draft an OT and a CB with their first two draft picks, they can make this happen.

Let's set the record straight. None of these 3 have any trade value. At best they serve backup roles, maybe in some weird world where multiple Right Tackles get hurt you can pull off a seventh for Steele. Most teams have back ups that are as good as Ferg with upside and Blands contract is even worse.

I could add a handful of other players to the list .

Cutting them is a decision down the road

Benching them sends signals now.....
Can't let team get comfortable with the culture of looseing.
Getting beat is one thing.....just poor performance becomes contagious

Goes for players & coaches
