Barry Switzer has a long-standing wish he wants Jerry to fulfill before he dies

Switzer is the OP, Original Puppet.

Yes he was and Aikman stood up to him. I’m still shocked we won the ‘95 Super Bowl with that much dysfunction going on. Aikman was at odds with Barry and John Blake who was kind of a locker room snitch reporting to Barry. That was bad. I know we won in ‘95 but I look at those Barry Switzer years with contempt because that started the puppets and the puppeteer dynamic.

We were lucky to be there and lucky to win it because they were kicking our butts in the second half. You can thank Neil O'Donnell for that win.

So many pieces had to fall into place for us to be there - Green Bay winning against San Francisco because they would have blown us out again since Barry never could get the team ready for them, that diving catch by Kevin Williams in week 15 against the Giants, the refs being on our side in the NFC championship game because we got lots of help and would have lost otherwise, and then Neil O'Donnell of course. We were going to lose that game.

There was a big difference between that 94 team and the 95 one - I don't even think it was 60% as good.

Barry Switzer has a long-standing wish that he wants Jerry Jones to fulfill before he dies.

“When Jerry puts my a– in the ring of honor someday before I die,” Barry Switzer said on 96.7 The Ticket. “You listening, Jerry? And I’m 89 years old, and I’m going to have Charles Haley put me in. Because Charles Haley, after I was gone, Charles Haley called me and asked me to put him in the ring of honor when I was already out of the way from the Cowboys.”

Tom Landry, Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer remain the only coaches to have brought Super Bowl victories for the Cowboys. However, Switzer is the only one among them not on the Ring of Honor. Landry was inducted in 1993, while Johnson was inducted in 2023.

Now, it will be interesting to see if Barry Switzer finally receives the recognition he is asking for.

Another thing I want to say about this clip. In the famous Dale Hansen story of Barry Switzer stopping practice because the guys were hungover from partying all night (starting at .30 in), that’s when the Dallas Cowboys as we want them died. It all died at that moment. I’ll take that to my grave.

In no universe should an owner who is also the GM allow that to happen. Barry calls practice early. Jerry the Owner and GM is paying Barry millions, the players millions and all of his employees, Barry and the Players, got to take the day off because they were partying the night before. In no business or any other job does the owner allow the employees to stop working because they were out partying the night before. Especially a billion dollar company like the Cowboys. The fact that ONLY Aikman had a problem with this is indicative to Jerry’s inept management and leadership. My question to Jerry is if his employees of his natural gas company came to work drunk or hungover and the supervisor said “hey you guys look tired and not wanting to work, let’s end the day early “. Would Jerry allow the natural gas company/employees or his oil filed companies/employees to do that? I doubt it.

That’s when the Cowboys died. In our 2-3 year death we ended winning in Super Bowl and that was because the Packers beat the Niners for us. But that’s the moment our legacy and the Cowboys truly became a hobby for Jerry and a means for him to be a celebrity.

Completely agree

Jerry tell that man you will do it to honor him after he passes.

Then do not do it. You can make everyone happy here.

I disagree. The Steelers never had the lead in the game, lost by double digits, and in fact lost by more than their two wins over Dallas combined. No, it was the Steelers that got their butts kicked. Neil O'Donnell isn't the only QB to have a bad game in the SB.

There's no guarantee that we lose that 49ers game. They had peaked early and were spent by that time. Plus Dallas beat them months later in the next season. I say we win that game easier than the Packers game.

Go look at the second half stats. I'm telling you they were going to win that game.

I respectfully disagree. They had a mental edge on us. I think we were more talented than them but they were better coached and had us mentally.

On the same token in 1996 I still believe if we beat the Panthers and we go on to play the Packers, I feel strongly we beat the Packers. We had them mentally. I still remember when the Packers beat the 49ers the Lambeagh crowd was chanting “WE WANT DALLAS” and the reporter asked Favre about the crowd and he said something to the effect of “I think they forget that they kicked our tails the last couple years”. Ouch, yeah we had them mentally.

JMO and I do agree that the 49ers peaked early in 95 and was trending downward and I do agree we had more talent but they had the metal edge over us and I don’t think we win that game. JMHO

I don't know how anyone watching that game wasn't relieved when that game was over. We dominated the first quarter and Pittsburgh dominated the rest. O'Donnell kept turning the ball over. That's why we won.All I kept doing in the 2nd half of that game was looking at the clock.
