Figures of Speech That Should Disappear Forever

"Should of..."

"Could of..."

"Would of..."

"May of..."

These are markers of illiteracy, and I am a veteran of a thousand psychic wars over the last 25 years of the internet trying in vain to stamp them out forever.
I've mostly given up. Another couple of years and they'll probably be considered okay, like "irregardless".

I absolutely cannot stand “cray-cray.”

“That's cray-cray!” You could have just said CRAZY. The word was already one syllable away from doing its job!
I'm okay with someone saying that to be funny... usually...but using it like it's a real word is ...

....OOH, CRINGE !! I hate when people use "cringe" as an adjective!

That's fair. Plus, every generation has their slang. We had ours as teens in the '90s, and I'm sure the adults hated some of it. lol I used to say "cray-cray" back to my daughter just to mess with her and be silly.

Thing is, you have to be careful saying things like that as a joke, though. I used to dislike the phrase "been a minute." Like, "It's been a minute since I've been to Arby's." I'd say it in jest to friends/family, and then I noticed it started slipping out naturally.

Doh!

I just used that one for the first time a couple of days ago. It made me feel dirty.

The term "mansplaining" should be retired. It's supposedly this major gotcha, but what is really says is, "You've made a point that I have no counter to, so let me just insult you by saying your views don't count because you're a man." Use of that expression is a desperate attempt to sound relevant, but it makes them sound desperate and pathetic. They're like, "Ooo, lookie, I made up this clever word," except that it's not clever.

The biggest problem, IMO, is that it's misused. There are times when it's an appropriate term, but those instances are pretty rare, at least in my experience.

I even saw some woman say it to her pharmacist when he was trying to explain how to correctly use her medication. He was literally trying to protect her life, which is his job, but she close to insult him. It was pathetic.

Just because the person explaining something to you like you're an idiot just happens to be a man, it doesn't mean he's mansplaining.
:muttley:

There's literally nothing to eat

No, there's plenty of food in the house, you just want something else.
Reminds of another one: I have nothing to wear.
You have clothes on so you are not naked and clothes in your dresser and closet.

Another one is Happy Friday. I still have to work and what if I have to work the weekends. There is nothing happy about that.

Or "Cheer up, tomorrow's Friday!"

Yeah, I have to work, thanks for reminding me!
