Signed by Cowboys Mike Pettine to join Cowboys staff

So they hired the guy that had beef with Brian Flores who has had the best defense in the NFL the last 3 years.

There is a reason Flores got him out of Minny.

This is not going to work. It is a BS save face move.
Yours will be the first face I COWBOYS!! when we hold the Packers to a couple of field goals Sunday night.

This guy has coached Clark and Gary while with Green Bay. Sounds like a sharp mind ,he could bring a spark to the front 7 that helps Parker's secondary. Atleast This organization is trying to get better, this is a positive for sure. I just hope some body can help this defense get better.
At this point, I’ll take any attempt at some coaching help.

Man, I was hoping they would go big and say the heck with it and bring in Rex lol, or someone like him…Jim Schwartz….someone with a track record of running good D’s…not just assisting but actually running the thing.
Pettine will probably take this thing over ,at least the front 7 part of the defense. He might not have the title of defensive coordinator, but he may coordinate a lot of this defense Anyway.

That's right, a good idea front a different angle, can do wonders. Pettine supposedly is blitz savvy, that is what this defense needs is somebody who knows how to draw up some pressure.

Because he likes CP and thinks he can help him? They do have a connection.
I don't doubt that.

But the person I was replying to said he wanted to be able to take credit for turning the D around which he wouldn't have gotten if he started the season in Dallas. That, of course, is a stupid take.

I am a bit surprised that we didn't add a few experienced coaches to help out Schotty and CP from the outset. Huge benefit from having long-time coaches to bounce ideas off -- guys who don't need to worry about their employment if they have different opinions.

That's all on cheap Jerry -- I keep saying it -- family-owned teams simply do not have the sort of capital on hand to make it work in the modern NFL. You need equity investors. You might be super rich but if most of your valuation comes from the team, then you are still pretty limited.

This clearly has affected some decision-making recently. Jerry isn't shy about spending, but he often delays deals -- that suggests he doesn't have enough cash on hand for huge signing bonuses.

I do like that he likes to blitz, to be honest with guys like porter jr and downs in the secondary (downs has shown the ability to cover 1 on 1). We should be blitzing more, forcing the issue sometimes.

Another thing, get bland off the field. It's clear he's being targeted by every team.

I'm not saying we can be a good defense, what I'm saying is we don't exactly have the worst personnel ever. There is some talent there. They should be able to get something out of it.

I'm not going to apologize for saying, this reeks of a bad hire. What in the name of football was on this guy's resume that warranted hiring him to be the next DC for the Dallas Cowboys? Six games into the season and we have admitted he wasn't ready. Nobody took into account the players we already had on the team and did the ol' okie doke and hired someone that doesn't fit what we have. Inexcusable. No, you don't get 'points' for hiring someone to hold his hand for the rest of the season. OMG.
Truth.

A lot of us were sold on the CP hire.

Obviously a huge mistake by GM Jerry.

Look for MP to be calling the shots on D soon.

Its in the best interests of the team.

Bland excels at Man coverage. ~50 percent comp. allowed

He's a ball hawk and thrives on man press coverage.

The soft cover read zones are not using his abilities.

I guess Jerry is killing two birds with one empty bottle of JWB......BS and CP both better watch their backs, Pettine could wind up replacing both of them. LOL..... :muttley:
It certainly is a wake up call for Shotty and CP.

I think CP is already out the door. He likely spends the rest of the season in Montes old skybox.

Ol Jerry's biggest problem is he is cheap on paying a coaching staff, and he limits who he will let coach here. Also their are good coaches in the league who would not coach here under Ol Jerry. The main problem is Ol Jerry, a smart and less egotistical person would have bought the team and hired a great GM to make it successful.

Ryan does have a track record of putting together top defenses, whether anyone likes him or not. My choice was Wade Phillips. Phillips was still coaching until he had a medical issue last year. He said it was caused by a prescription issue and wanted to return to coaching, but the UFL team he was coaching folded. He then retired ... but I don't think it would have taken much to talk him out of retirement. Phillips has put together defenses that helped teams reach Super Bowls in three stops. He generally has had one of the top defenses wherever he's gone, and even did it in the UFL, where his team reached the championship in 2024.

I don't know if Phillips' scheme could marry to Parker's, but I do know that he knows defense ... his defense in Denver carried a mediocre offense to a Super Bowl title.

From what I've read, he doesn't have any hard feelings toward the Joneses. Maybe he's happy in retirement now, but I'd bet he would have accepted a consulting role to be the one to help this team accomplish what it couldn't when he was here.
