Schottenheimer is the HC...he is in charge of the entire game plan. All three phases of the game. Yesterday, he said Parker was 100% in charge of the defense.....that's BS, he's in charge!! If he doesn't get that, he will never succeed as a HC.
Of course he is, but he also has to delegate, there’s no time to micromanage every little thing.
Defensive players and coaches are separate entities, even though he’s working behind the scenes to get things fixed. That’s what they focused on during the extra days they had. Saying he’s responsible for every detail is unrealistic; delegation is a huge part of the job.
The NFL operates like corporations; heads of groups oversee managers, who in turn have assistant managers, each responsible for their own areas. In the end, he can push for corrections, but saying it doesn’t guarantee it gets fixed.
That’s why they traded for Joey Porter Jr. and brought in a seasoned coach to speed up the process.
If you don’t understand the chain of command, it’s just like in business, everyone answers to someone, but you can only send so many memos, hold so many closed-door meetings, or walk into rooms and say “we need to fix this” before returning to your other duties.
Even walk-around coaches must focus on their responsibilities.
There’s a reason Mike McCarthy didn’t get fired but Mike Nolan did, if head coaches were solely responsible, assistants and coordinators wouldn’t be dismissed independently. Under your theory, all head coaches would be let go while assistants and coordinators kept their jobs, which clearly isn’t how it works.
I understand what you're saying, but I don’t think you fully see it from my perspective.
I can’t figure out how you can’t look past your own anger right now. Yes, we’re disappointed and angry, but placing all the blame on him feels different to me.
He first had a bad defensive coordinator, and now he’s got an inexperienced one, while they’re flipping the whole defense from a 4-3 to a 3-4. That’s a much bigger transition than when they fired Mike Nolan and brought in Dan Quinn, who already had most of the pieces in place. Improving a 4-3 is far easier than completely changing the scheme.
