Schefter: What the Cowboys/Packer Parsons trade means a year later

What about them sucks, we all were happy before the first game about them
We were SB contenders before the season started. It was the Jerry hype machine. And I fell for it to an extent too since I predicted 10 wins. It seems Jerry traded most of the picks for players that haven't made one bit of difference. Now you can say that maybe coaching has something to do with it but the defense remains awful. So what happens if the team continues to lose?. We're stuck with what we have and can't even count on the draft to fix it.

FO sold fans on a bridge to nowhere. Per usual. The point was to fix the run defense. They did not and hurt a team strength in the process. This defense is worse than last year. So no one "won" this trade.

What happens if they start to win, man I looked at some games we have coming up, and I hear your point loud and clear!

this is giving the person the answer to the question and they still bat 0.

We keep Parsons, ok, no trade, you with me here. WE STILL LOSE.

We trade Parsons, right, still with me. Its hard, just a few more seconds. WE STILL LOSE.

what part of this is confusing?

two questions you have to have answers for, are we still losing? answer, yes, are we still NOT winning, also yes.

this isnt even kindergarten hard. Why must some people make something easy so hard.

What? You loved those knee jerk PR moves?
Not about those moves. Just like to remind the people that you've been lying nonstop for Micah for going on 2 years. That's all. Being wrong about something is one thing. Lying is something totally different. So yea.....gotta keep reminding you.

OK. So then why not break down how we won the trade?

I am not trying a gotcha here.

The fact you read my entire post and responded like this means either 1) you cant tell me how they won on the field. 2) you dont want to waste your time.

Micah being on the team would never have gotten us anywhere in the playoffs. Why bother going to the playoffs if you know Micah is going to disappear and you’re going to lose anyways? I’m pretty sure I remember a poster saying this but I can’t remember who. Lol
Moving into the 3 4 defense would have impacted Micah more than ANYONE on this defense.

They traded him, then moved into a 3 4 which is he naturally fits better.

Need to wait another few years actually.
Need to see how our draft picks do.
Need to see how Micah does when he returns.
Of the issues will be if in one is for or against the trade. They will say, team game. GB / Micak pro fans will say, Micah can't do it all if they fail. If they win, other teams including some Dallas fans will say it was the team.

If Dallas has success, it will be the same for the GB / Micah fans saying that. Dallas keeps losing, fans will say the same, team game.

We know how it goes.

I still think the trade was a good one; we weren't going anywhere with them. My issue from Day 1 is that Jerry thought he could use the capital from this trade to make this team a contender. Well.......

The Cowboys are vastly better off without his immature nonsense gone. You never pay big money for garbage like that.

He was an early season stat guy who disappeared in November, and he was a speed bump in the run game.

Addition by subtraction.

OK.

So as of right now.

Lets look at this.

With Parsons (2021-24): Best defense in the NFL by EPA/play when he was on the field
1.72 takeaways per game
3+ sacks in nearly half their games (48.5%)
Elite pressure that actually finished plays

Without Parsons (22 games since the trade):
32nd in EPA per drive
32nd in success rate
32nd in explosive plays allowed 0.64 takeaways per game
3+ sacks in only 31.8% of games 1 sack or fewer in over half their games (52.3%)

2026 so far (5 games):
5 total sacks
0 interceptions
Dead last against the run (168.4 ypg)
Worst opponent passer rating in the league (120.5)
Worst third-down defense in the league

Micah Parsons with the Packers

14 games (13 starts)
12.5 sacks (led the team, tied for 3rd in the NFL at the time of his injury)
41 tackles (19 solo)
12 tackles for loss
26 QB hits
2 forced fumbles
1 pass deflection

Come on Jazz, even you cant be this set in your ways.

Look at how BAD our D is without him. You think Lawrence is going to magically turn into that? lol. Come on dude.

Yeah. Our run game has definitely improved.

I agree with this but my only question is his leadership in the locker room. There was already some friction among a few players. At times, you wonder if he's uncoachable.
Parsons wanted to be the face of the franchise and everything should have been done to surround him with talent during his early contract. But unfortunately Jerry was so busy selling that POS Prescott.

What was our epa on defense in his playoff games? Let's see how you dodge and deflect.
