For this team. Williams is a very solid backup. This team got complacent and penciled him in as “solid” let’s re-sign him. Opposing defenses feel 0 threat with Williams. He is solid at the goaline and runs hard but he is 0 threat out of the backfield , no breakaway speed, no elusiveness. Look at what signing Kenneth Walker has done for the chiefs offense. It rejuvenated their entire team. Another miss by the Jones’s.

JWill is a proven starter, and he proved it last year by finishing 9th in the league in rushing yards! That’s not a solid backup, that’s a legit starting RB. The problem is the Cowboys have gotten away from the running game that used to make them nearly impossible to stop. They’ve become so one-dimensional this year, and it’s ridiculous. Get back to running the football and make this offense dangerous again!

0 threat and it shows. It’s called being complacent. That’s guy brings 0 dynamic threat to the game.

This, just like when red and Mike was here, BS easily gets away from the run, when it is working and get pass happy for some crazy reason.

This.

And they make themselves one dimensional through their idiotic play-calling

Schotty needs to go

There are some very good RBs they are going to be in the 2027 draft. Will they draft one? I would even use a 1st round pick on Jaden Baugh.

It’s the main problem.
JJ went cheap and thin and got himself a slow B level back .
And will McClay drafted 2 duds.

Total yards just means he got a lot of playing time.

Really a drop off from Williams was pretty easy to predict. His numbers were largely held up by a very strong 5.3 YPC the first half of the year. Over the back half of the season he was a very average runner coming in around 4.2ypc which is his career norm as well.

This offense has about as favorable conditions for a RB as you’ll find. One dimensional players can be stopped in the NFL though and Williams has shown to be a one dimensional player.

I said this in the off season
Williams is not a #1 RB
To win with a limited QB like Dak we need a top 10 run game and if Williams is your 1 you need a 1a to split carries with him or upgrade

Problem is you guys saw the unknown in him he was good last year and assumed it would be as good this year. I warned you all about it, this team at certain positions needs PLAYMAKERS and if you had a good season the previous year, you probably will decline the following season

Agreed. Add RB to the list of needs for next year, along with OT, TE, WR, LB (all of them), DE, and CB

Good think we've got lots of draft picks and consistently pick up quality free agents.

I was going to add while Williams was nice find, and was good overall as a runner, the NFL has shifted to RBs that can add more in the passing game as well.
Gone are the days where RB's would just run the rock.

CMC finished a handful of yards ahead of Williams rushing wise, but dwarfed him in total yards as he had 900+ receiving yards compared to 177 for J-Will.
Gibbs not only split the load but had ~650+ receiving yards too.

Obviously, there's a talent gap between J-Will and the two above, but just pointing out, as you know, that 9th sounds good on paper but quite a few other backs that are considered very good are dual threat.
Williams is more of a runner only.

When will JJ force Shotty to let Adams call plays? Can't be soon enough
Absolutely. Would love to streamline the offensive staff and simplify the philosophy and actually have an identity.

Right now, it seems like Schotty’s idea of identity is “we don’t need prep or practice cuz we’re awesome at football and can just show up and destroy you with our passing attack”

Plz get back to running the ball and basing your passing attack off that. Dak threw 50+ times last night. That’s gonna lose you the game 99 out of 100 times
