Recently went into Wal-Mart and Target. Looking for things for the house - kitchen.
I think out of 10 separate manufacturers only one made small kitchen utensils in the USA. All other in China.
Forget even looking for dishes - 20 of 20 in China.
Towels - well here's a switch - most from China and others from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Small appliances - none made in the USA.
I did find one entry door mat made in the USA.
Even looking for a small barbecue - half from China.
Half from the USA.
When will we wake up and buy American.
The few dollars or cents you pay now saves a lot of jobs later.

About the only grill/BBQ you'll find American made anymore is Weber, they cost a little more but are more reliable and better quality then any of the other junk Wally World tries to pawn us off on. I thought Wal-Mart's whole deal in their beginning was trying to push American made products? Don't know where I got that from but I'm almost positive it was a slogan or something for them once, until greed set in.

Yes I got a Webber. Works great.

Lower overhead=Higher profit margin. That's capitalism folks.
My pill dispenser is made in the USA. As is my Tervis Dallas Cowboys thermal beverage container.

Its unfortunate that, in a lot of cases, Patriotism and Capitalism do not go hand in hand.

But, the Dallas Cowboys were made in America, right?

It's all World Economics. To be friends with other countries, you need to buy their goods and help them and they will help us when we ask. It's just supply and demand but at a different level.

Wal-Mart's whole deal is low prices. Goods produced overseas are cheaper to make and cheaper to sell. They also pay employee's like crap and give no benefits. So if you really want to support the economy, higher wages, and all that good stuff then don't shop at Wal-Mart.

Anyways, one could argue that through comparative advantage outsourcing is good and promotes economic growth by weeding out less efficient jobs.

I avoid WalMart.

On the other hand Costco (although I don't have one near me) pays employees well above the market average and provides them with great benefits. In fact, their CEO earns a lot less money than he could easily make because of this. It's a great store to shop at (and support) if you are looking for something kind of similar.
