-- It was a mixed day for LG Ron Leary. He showed the power that makes him so attractive, as he threw a couple of defenders down on run reps. On the other hand, he looked sluggish on passing downs and was beaten by quickness, especially to his outside. He's facing a feisty bunch of backup tackles, who are much farther along than he is, so I'm awarding him an incomplete for the day.

-- "You don't #$%king stand up!" "That's bull-s*&#!" That was what an animated Rod Marinelli told backup DE Monte Taylor after the end bounced up in the final 2-on-2 drill. They're playing for keeps -- and for jobs -- here.

-- DTs Jerome Long and Nick Hayden continue to rotate with the 1st team D and had pulled even or beyond first team starter Sean Lissemore. Hayden has a nice rip move and can dis-engage. Long used a nasty spin move to beat opposing guards a few times in the final pass blocking drill.

In the meantime, Lissemore's reps with the 2nd unit are increasing. We'll keep watching these trends.

-- Bottom line. Whatever issues the O-linemen had during the drills, Romo's protection during the 11-on-11s was very good. He had time to cross the field on his reads on the goal-line passes. They're getting better as a unit.

-- Romo watch: We've been tracking his lack of zeal during the team stretches. He's still holding back and staying out of stretches which tax his lower back.

The most consistent offensive blocker was C Travis Frederick, who consistently stoned opponents on straight rushes and stunts. Frederick has had some difficulty with quick tackles with good swim techniques to seeing him stand up or drop opponents was the most encouraging result of the drill.

Encouraging

Love it. Thinking we might be better than I was expecting.

Except that last part about Romo..I'm beginning to think we have a problem with our QBs back...hmmm..

Sigh...the problem with his back was cyst removal. They're still gonna baby it, you know because he's their 100 million dollar investment and this is July. Man I truly don't get why this is so hard to understand. He'll be fine
