Lettuce, Tomatos, etc on Hamburgers: Why?

nothing wrong with an off-season, human interest post........take a chance and try a nice slab of avocado on your next burger......you'll like it, I promise!

Gotta say... not about the stuff going on the burger but over it and under it... namely the roll.

I tried one of those new Wendy's burgers with the pretzel roll... Very impressive!

It's a stout roll that isn't going to go to mush after being soaked with all the juice being emitted from the goodies that are between the two halves of the roll.

It was a good tasting burger too.

I had open heart surgery (4-way bypass) in 2004. My heart was and still is OK, .. but I had some major blockage from high cholesterol.

So I changed my diet.

I have not had a fast food cheeseburger since.

There's something to be said for that too.

I like mine simple and made at home. 80/20 mixed with salt, pepper, and fresh garlic only. 1 slice of provolone or muenster, grilled onions & fresh jalapeno slices and a squirt of mustard. I feel the same way about pizza, people put too much crap on them. Give me sausage and onion and leave the rest in the kitchen.

I'm confused Jimmy. All these years I thought you liked yours with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes.

Hamburgers are the favorite fast food for families to eat. but adding the following like

lettuce
pickles
mayo
yellow American cheese
catsup
onions,
tomatos
mustard

just ruins the image of the hamburger. why do we need them as add ons? why not stick with only these

Tabasco sauce
bacon
mozzarella cheese
a ting dash of Dijon mustard

those are much better toppings

as a Chef who orders extra lettuce and tomato on all my hamburgers its because i like lettuce and tomato, crazy huh? and they go w/ a hamburger well lol not like they dont match up well.

Here is a picture of the 50/50 sliders I made a little while back. The bun is a Hawaiian Roll :)

Oh, and can I get some opinions on mixing baked beans with cottage cheese.

Anyone else like this? It is a delicacy and one of my all time favorites. Great with Pizza!
Do you eat it hot or cold? (I assume cold but ??) I use to eat cottage cheese (cold of course) with pepper and salt as a kid but I just don't want it anymore. But my Dad still loves it that way.

There is no such thing as a cheeseburger unless it has Hot Hatch Green Chile on it, or in it, or or on the bottom of it. Don't care, look it up!

WV, I didn't know this. But now I understand what you meant when you said you want live another 25 years. If you keep up with the diet, you probably can.

Usually cold, .. but if the beans are warm, that's fine too.

BTW, if I eat cottage cheese without beans, which is often, I put salt and pepper on it sometimes.

Yea, I never really mention it often.

Even in person here where I live, when I would see someone that I haven't seen in a while, or since the surgery, I never mention it. I don't know why, I just don't. Silly I guess.

I know I don't want to hear about their gall bladder surgery, or back problems, etc. LOL (But I still end up hearing about theirs)

My wife makes me a burger now and then, but she uses a certain kind of meat, and fixes it a certain way, etc.

If you're hungover...

Fry an egg or two and put some shredded cheddar, hotsauce, and ketchup on it. Toast the bun.

I understand. Some people talk about their health problems. And some don't.

My mother is one who does for the past 30 years. It's almost all she'll talk about. It's annoying sometimes, but, hey, I'm very glad to have her here.

I'm also very glad you made it out ok and seem to be doing well.

I enjoy tomato and pickles on burgers. Lettuce only seem to annoy me unless it's flavorful like arugula.
