With T.Wills and D.Harris I just don't see Miles coming back next year

Miles in under contract until 2017, Who is to say if he has a big year that the Cowboys would not put him on the trading blocks?

It doesn't matter how good Harris or Williams are. If Miles is healthy and preforms like he did in 2009, he will be back. If he continues to struggle to stay on the field and hampered by injuries he won't. It's pretty simple.

I can see them letting him walk, especially if he suffers from nagging injuries again. But I think JG really likes him and they'd try to keep him around if they can.

Ask me this time next year.

Why are some people eager to see him leave? He is only 29. The more weapons for Romo, the better.

If he stays healthy for the season, then he remains on the team in 2014.

If he missed significant times with injuries, then he could be cut.

He is highly unlikely to be traded. If a team wanted to pay a player his salary, they would just sign a Free Agent.

Miles contract this year is 3.5 but it jumps next season to 8.2 mill in 2014 and then 9.6 Mill in 2015. I like Miles and I hope he has a big year but Cowboys always get accused of holding on to a player and given the contract he has and what will certainly be a big contract coming up for Dez I would think looking to trade a guy like Miles could be big for Dallas. After all to get something good in trade you have to be willing to give up something good. Just a thought.

We need Miles in the slot, Williams to develop on the outside, and Harris to run back kicks and fill in receiving as necessary.

I should add that if Miles can't play because of injuries, we're going to have to do without him, just like any other player who can't get on the field.

If the numbers " 8.2 mill in 2014 and then 9.6 Mill in 2015" are correct, then no, Miles will not be back unless he settles for less. I don't think the Cowboys cap could handle that. The ball will be spread around to Dez, Witten, Miles and other WRs, and RBs. So, I don't see Miles having a Calvin Johnson monster year which would justify paying him so much. Time to move on. And no more restructuring and playing around with Miles' contract. Take less, a lot less or see you later. The Cowboys have paid him more than enough and had to pay a cap penalty on top of it.

I really think Williams was drafted in the hopes that, this year, we could move Miles to the slot, and in the next year, release him. But if Miles has a big year, I believe its going to be hard to let him walk, even if he is scheduled to make 8 million or whatever that number is. Perhaps a longer term deal at a lower cap hit could be negotiated.

Nope I think he will stay too. I admit I've underrated the guy.

Well, I don't think a trade is ever out of bounds. If a trade is dependent on his salary, they could simply re-work his contract to make it more incentive-based.

Exactly. T Will was drafted with the idea of replacing Miles if he doesn't have a good season. Or at a minimum, putting pressure on Miles in the offseason negotiations if he does put up an excellent season this year. There is no way Miles gets 8MM for next season, the real question is whether he takes a lower salary or forces his release to go to another team. A negotiated lower salary is the mostly likely scenario IMO.

thats his cap hit, not his salry. his salry for this year is 840k. next year it is 5.5 mil.
cutting him next year would cost money but could be spread over two years. more likely he plays here next year if he stays healthy and productive this year then is cut the following year when it actually saves you money. his contract runs thru 2016 but is 11 mil the last year so he won't be here past 2015 at the most

If he has a good year he will be back at least 1 more maybe two.... But once TWill develops he will be our #2 and Austin won't be making 8 or 9 million a year as our #3.... So I think it depends I don't think he makes it til 2017 but this won't be his last year either so we will see
