I understand Lee is a beast, but don't forget when he went out on injury, our def. didn't lose a single step with Bruce Carter. Lee gets alot of deserving credit, but Carter is just as good/crucial for this defense. If they both can stay healthy, watch out, NFL.

When we drafted Bruce carter my boy in college who played lb called me and said he's a steal. He's going to be a beast when he healthy

Oh, I saw him play live a few times and watched all Tarheel games, I was super pumped when we drafted him. I remember posting on here after the draft that this guy was a complete monster, but got no love for it.

I really like Carter, but in the 43, he is nowhere near as valuable as Lee.

I disagree, remember Dexter Coakley? Bruce Carter is a Coakley on steroids type player, he will be BIG!

I hope to see him get the call on some blitzes. The sooner the better.

I too, disagree. A lot of stuff in the Tampa 2 gets funneled to the strong side, so having a quick, athletic backer on the weakside makes a world of difference

Coakley was largely overrated. He was a three time pro bowler - 99, 01, and 03 - but he never lead the team in tackles in those years. The last two, the team was led in tackles by Dat Nguyen. Would you take Coakley over Nguyen? I sure wouldnt.

We were already stepping backwards even before Lee was hurt. We sucked before and after Lee got hurt.

And anyone w/o some kind of bias involved could easily see that Lee is easily the 2nd most valuable player we have on D (arguably the most valuable).

A great duo, of that nobody has any doubt, but will the front four be able to keep the opposing linemen off of Bruce/Lee? That is the question.

You are getting your Jimmy 4-3 mixed up with your Kiffen 4-3. Carter plays the WILL which is where the action is funneled to in a Kiffen 4-3. Think Derrick Brooks.

Yea, but you can't funnel anything anywhere without a middle linebacker who can dictate where the offense has to go.

Not sure what you mean. The MIKE in Kiffen's D has to be able to cover the deep middle but the playmaker in the LB corps is the WILL. Both the SAM and the MIKE are responsible for gaps in the run game. The WILL is left uncovered and is allowed to flow to the action. The WILL also plays underneath in the passing game so will have a lot of opportunities for picking off short passes. Think Lance Briggs and Derrick Brooks.

I think a lot of you are really confused here.

Both the weakside linebacker and middle linebacker have significant run stopping responsibilities. That being said so do the corners.

It isn't just on the defensive tackles. The ability to stop the run in the tampa 2 depends much more on the linebackers and the secondary compared to the defensive line in the 4-3 or 3-4.

Much of the success of our team depends on how Carter, Lee, Claiborne, and Carr play against the run. It's also vital that the defensive line create a pass rush, mostly without blitzing. That being said pressure is much more important than sacks. We don't necessarily need to take the QB down, but we can't let them get all day like they have been recently in the 3-4.

The difference between the 4-3 and 3-4 pass rush is significant though. In the 3-4 you would have Spencer and/or Ware pass rushing predominantly. And the role of the 3-4 linemen was mainly to stop the run. So that is often why you wouldn't see significant pass rush for our players. You're not generally going to get much pass rush from players who weigh 315-320 lbs. In the 4-3 especially this one, your average weight drops to 273.... Pass rush certainly becomes easier at that point.

I remember how people were clamoring for us to have Spencer, Butler, and Ware on the field at the same time in the nickel, we're going to do that with Rayford essentially, and now people aren't pleased...

The defensive line shouldn't be nearly the problem people think it will. And there really isn't any great solution to it at this point, except waiting for it to become healthy. I have no doubts that a line with Ware, Hatcher, Spencer, and Ratliff is going to be able to wreak havoc with their focus being pass rush. Very different from what you would get with that coming from a 3-4 look.

Um I like Sean Lee, I really do, but have you heard of Derrick Brooks, played weak side LB for Tampa? So therefore I will not choose one over the other, GO COWBOYS

I'm really excited to see those two play together for a full season. They have the potential to be one of the best duos in the league.
