Robocop reboot on its way!

Not that I mind the remake but.. wow that suit looks awful in black.

2 things that make me rage.

1. I *HATE* that the helmet opens and closes at will. I am so tired of every movie where the hero wears a mask, they have to constantly take the mask off. I am willing to bet that whatever final show down is in this movie, he will not be wearing the mask. Either he'll open it for some stupid reason, or it will get ripped off.

2. Robocop fully remembers who he is? That sounds awful..

Some remakes I don't mind. This one is one of those that I would not mind.

Some I have no clue what they are thinking when they remake a movie or an old show into a movie...probably the worst off the top of my head was turning the Flintstones into not one but two movies.

The one that I thought was pretty bad that I seen recently was the total recall movie.

However I have liked some remakes like the evil dead (although I enjoyed the comedy aspect of the originals) and Dawn of the dead.

One I kind of like to see redone, although I don't know if they could capture what made the original so fun, is Flash Gordon.

You forget Speed Racer? I loved Robocop when it came out, in retrospect not the best movie but I liked the bawdy humor. This new one is likely another personality-less slick explosionthon. I think the changes they made with him remaining alive and retaining his soul/mind whatever is stupid, that struggle between who he was and his duty was one of the interesting things in the old movie.

Perhaps they can make up for Robocop 3 with this one. Hopefully it gets a R rating.

Robocop 1 & 2 (rated R) awesome.
Robocop 3 (rated PG13) not so much.

If they can bring back the futuristic commercials, the "I'll buy that for a dollar" guy, and Kutwood Smith, it can work out.

does hollywood have ANY original ideas at all anymore?

Nope! Got a friend tied in to the screenwriting trade, and he says that Hollywood won't touch anything original right now. If it doesn't already have some sort of existence (ie novel, comic, TV show, and so on), they won't consider making it. And that movie versions of almost every TV show from the 60's, 70's, etc, no matter how bad, were in some form of preproduction.

The trailer is so so so bad. It looks like every other summer blockbuster being created these days.

The suit of iron man, the needless romance of the Batman films, and the CGI of Star Trek in a PG-13 fun for the families action movie. Brutal.

Just to be devil's advocate, what are some ideas that you would have Hollywood make? Movies have been around for 100 years. Just how many "new" ideas are there out there?

I'm pretty sure whatever you come up with it's already been covered by a movie in some way.

Uh...yes. Look at the trailer and compare it to Iron man.

I did watch it and the original films.

So a billionaire womanizing playboy gets taken by terrorists and than makes a suit of iron to escape and keeps making them on his own with his own money...
He also refuses to obey the board of his company and also the government wanting to use him

Vs a cop he is nearly killed and turned into half human half robot as his only chance to survive. On top of that he does not pay or own the suit, he is programmed too do as the corporation owning the suit programs him to do and works for bothnthe corporation and the police.

NO...it is not a rip off of iron man and the only thing in common is some armor.

There are no completely original ideas out there. Your basic romcoms, your horror films, copmfilm, military, coming of age and other genres...every ideabasic MN idea has been used.

with that said...by saying original most mean not remaking old movies, taking old tv shows and turning them into movies or having way to many sequels with the same plot

Hunger Games was of course from a novel but it was original at least as regards western movies. And it is huge. Hollywood is ignoring things like that in place of redoing everything. There are a lot of great books out there that have not been made into movies. That USED to be one of the ways Hollywood would do things- look for top books and make them into movies. Now not so much.

Many people do not know this but there was both a japanese book and movie called battle royale that came out before the hunger games books and movies. They are pretty much the same plot with kids being chose to compete and kill each other to win.i actually like the movie much better.

But overall I agree with you with the books to movies idea. Look at all of the stephen king book to movies kn the past.
