What is wrong with this team is the people who have tried to build it have a loose understanding of what makes a team succeed. I am speaking about the final decision maker who thinks spending 70 million on cornerbacks and not doing zip for the defensive line is a great idea.

Likewise, this team is made in the image of the play caller who tends to run an Andy Reid Eagles pass happy offense. I do not believe Garrett did not still have a huge hand in the play calling.

This is really simple.

1. Build the defensive front with depth to rotate players. The Giants got to two SB's with this in mind as did Jimmy Johnson. The pass defense will be fine once you have made a front seven that create a time issue for the quarterback. He holds it a tick too long and the posse arrives in mass.

2. Build an offensive line so the team can have a BALANCED attack. My biggest complaint is the people running the offense think Romo throwing forty times a game is a good idea. That is not a knock on Romo. But I know he would like to do that as well.

Yet for this team and offense to survive they need to pull away from the record breaking stats of Romo and run the damn ball.

I guarantee the offensive line would love to play smash mouth football.

Two other aspects need to be filled.

1. A safety that can quarterback the DB's and play from sideline to sideline, and deliver the wood when it is time. They haven't gotten close in all the years trying to replace Woodson.

2. A WR across from Dez that forces teams to respect him. T Will may be that guy. I believe in him, but that is emotion talking.

Dez is not a sharp enough route runner that he can work in ta timing based offense. But he is disruptive when he is comfortable. The passing game needs to be revamped in a way to get T Will and the slot guy - Beasley and Harris - open across the middle.

Once you have the defense's attention it is now scheming the supportive WR's to get Dez in a position to dominate.

I am very concerned about Romo's health. This is why I believe this year is all in or rebuild. There is not some magic player that will fix this. It will take an all in effort, and still that depends on some luck and if these guys have the heart to be winners.

If you can't go bag deep this next season, Jerry might as well break up the band.

My opinion.

not much to argue with there. To me anyone who does not get the importance of the lines is a football moron.

ALso we have been weak at safety ever since Woody injured his back. 10 years ago. It is no coincidence that virtually ever SB we have won we had at least one top Safety.

You and me agreeing?

I have hope for 2014!!

Dix or Nix in the first round.

Obviously a TE in the 2nd.

Then I'm drafting predominantly defense the rest of the way. To hell with BPA, we were asking people at Gold's Gym if they wanted to play DL for us this season - we need some depth.

You're talking my language 2deep

OL superior
DL young and hungry
LB hits like a ton, smart , can rush
Safety: smart , rangy, and can play the ball
And run the darned ball

Real OC and dc

It's impossible to understand what goes through Jerry's mind. He's obsessed with cornerbacks but continues to neglect safety. Why? Who knows.

The important thing to understand is that Jerry has learned NOTHING about how to build a team. He proved how clueless he was with the CB heavy draft of 2000, and is now repeating those same mistakes more than a decade later by overpaying for Carr and trading up for Claiborne.

The man has absolutely no idea how to build a successful football team and I see no evidence that he'll ever learn.

You aren't going to find a bigger Jerry hater than me but Mo was unanimously ranked by all scouts as one of the best CB prospects in a long time and the Rams offered a sweet deal, gotta pull the trigger there. They inquired about trading up for Earl Thomas, were going to take Vaccaro if he slipped past New Orleans last year and are apparently very high on Ha-Ha Clinton Dix.

The Cowboys spent more on the DL than almost all other teams in 2013. Ratliff, Spencer and Ware were paid a huge amount of money.

But if they were not on paid vacation they took a vacation on the field. sadly

I'm not bashing Jerry for not knowing Claiborne was overrated, I'm saying its another knock on his philosophy that he has to have the shiny new QB instead of putting resources into beefing up the front 7.

Can't argue with building up the trenches on both sides of the ball.
Little Stevie has already said building up the d line will be a priority this offseason so we will see.... I wish I trusted their talent evaluation more

agree with the OP, as long as you sprinkle in some LB's not made of glass

Always enjoy your post. Jerry had to decide between offense or defense this past season and offense stank worse then defense.Defenses turn I would think. They have been turning over players at a pretty fast pace.

They certainly do need a safety but the DL is a bigger need I would think.
I like many here am ready for some old stars to be released.

This is the year that reveals the future for the staff. The OJT for Garrett is about finished I don't think JJones can run this gamble much longer. I've been wrong many times.

TwoDeep3 your preaching to choir here. Agree with everything you said.

I did too but there is no hope for 2014. Tough schedule and many of the loser vets will be back. I think 2014 will be a crash and burn year and 2015 will be a good rebuild year for us.

Add Crawford and there was our front 4. What gets me is we still managed to win 8 games despite those problems and a whole lot more on defense.

Although I agree with what TD3 is saying, I also recognize that it will likely take 2 to 3 off seasons to pull off what he's arguing for.

Romo will be 36 or 37 by then. It just ain't happenIng.

Cut all the dead weight this offseason. Bring on cap Armageddon. Tank. Rebuild. It's the only way.
