IRVING, Texas -- On Thursday Tim MacMahon and Calvin Watkins offered up their draft solutions for the Dallas Cowboys with their Final Exam takes. Steve Muench of Scouts Inc. has his NFC East draft breakdown up, and to no surprise he agreed with Tim and Calvin, believing the Cowboys have to go heavy on defense in May. He listed defensive end, defensive tackle and safety as the priorities. The Cowboys must address the defensive line somehow someway.

So Will McClay really is the head man in charge over Ciscowski.... hmmph.

Want no parts of Clinton-Dix or that LSU safety. Give me one of those big boys at tackle, the kid Nix from Notre Dame or the guy from Minnesota.

Broaddus and Fisher have been promoting him a lot recently.

Apparently, the Cowboys feel that Ciscowski is good a talent evaluator, but he is on the road a lot and does not have as good of feel for the big picture of putting the team together. Also, they feel that Ciscowski is good at ranking WRs vs other WRs and that type of positional ranking, but that McClay is better at ranking an OLineman vs a WR and making decisions on drafting vs free agents.

Didn't realize Jim Jeffcoat's son was a prospect. That would be kinda cool to draft him!

By the looks of things, Ciskowski has simply been awarded the most prestigious title, whereas McClay will be working within a function of greater impact. Evidently, they've strategically placed McClay into a position that affords him the most leverage with player acquisition. It should prove interesting to see how this works out.

If McClay brings in a better draft, so be it, Im not impressed with Ciskowski anyway. The draft isnt science by any means and most of the time its hit or miss at best. If McCLay is better, or understands the big picture or has the knack for it, thats your guy. Ciskowski isnt doing better than most teams anyway, so lets give this guy a try. He might be a one year wonder as well.

I'm starting to think that we should start staying away from LSU defensive players.

I think a lot of evidence is supporting my claim that the gap between the pros and college is bigger than many will admit and i dont think all the colleges prep you for the pros and i dont think colleges are thinking of the pros over winning for their colleges.

This "Somehow someway" phrase is really being overused now. I blame Garrett....

We should be taking the best players, if we chase defensive players we are never going to be better. Who,e roster needs to be better.

It seems mcclay was about to get offers last year for other front offices so it seems they have put him in a role of some authority over the past year at least till draft day anyway then dumb and dumber make all the decisions.

Mcclay was a top guy in the jags front office when coughlin was there so he must have a decent approach to things.

And for the millionth time, parcells bypassed ciskowski and put Ireland ahead of him which should tell us what we need to know. It made perfect sense that Jerry put him back in charge as soon as Ireland and gaine left after the 07 season.

We will draft a TE in the second and a RB in the 4th. Probably a WR and a QB... we will pick up a CB from San Fernando valley technical school of wielding and late we will get a nice DE.

Interesting. I read right here on this very message board that Ciskowski was the real mover and shaker and that Jerry Jones is a figurehead for all of us title-obsessed folk.

This is huge news. I wonder why it is not being shouted from the rooftops.

There was a shuffling of roles...and it happened last year. I posted the article about it, too. It never gained traction w/fans or the media until this year. Go figure.

i remember that, good article pretty much assessing that the fans didnt have a clear take on how the drafts had gone down. Some of us had to warp reality to fit what we thought was fact. Still a good article.
