They proposed this new rule that kickoffs be moved to the 40 to further eliminate injuries on kickoffs. What kind of chicken $!!$ is that. The worst special teams in football last year now wants kickoffs to start on the 40 so they won't get them returned on them.

And they were the only team to propose this rule change. Seriously if the owners agree to this just get rid of the kickoff all together. It would just be a complete waste of time. If they do agree to this if you get a touchback you should be able start your possession at the 25.

Idea for post TD kickoffs if PAT eliminated: If kickoff goes through the uprights it substitutes the PAT, if not, it can be returned.

It would lead to more on-side attempts which would be a whole lot more interesting than touchbacks.

this is correct. finally someone not just reacting negatively because the suggestion came from the Commanders.

I for one, like that teams can propose various rule changes for discussion. That's a fantastic way to keep the game moving forward.

It's a dumb rule because if I'm a coach and my kickoffs start at the 40 yard line I am probably looking to onside kick every time. And I think that has just as great of a chance of causing injury as anything.

Why does anyone care what the Foreskins propose or think?

You didn't give the whole story. As well as the kickoffs changes the Commanders also proposed that. Quarterbacks can't be hit until they leave the pocket. Punters should be given 1 point for touchbacks. Teams that lose by 40 or more points get a bye week and linebackers have to count 7 Mississippis before tackling the quarterback.

Lets just add nets and you can catch it off the net and return it like the arena league.

Reeks of JJ's expanding the playoff structure comments. Weak stuff.

This would be interesting if they also moved touchbacks out to the 25 yard line.

It would (1) encourage teams to try and shorten the kick to the goalline to pin them back, and (2) it would encourage onside kicks because field position wouldn't be as bad if it didn't work.

Which are exactly the two reasons it won't happen...

They are smart did you see their special teams last year? We killed them on it. So I would propose a change as well lol.

What's the matter, can't their K make touchbacks from the 35?
Want to give their Defense a better advantage because of that, the opposing team starts from the 20 instead of the 30.

If the rule passes, some kickers are going to be humiliated on kickoffs that don't reach the endzone...for kicks purposefully intended as touchbacks.

I can them having higher KO's that drop around the goal line, forcing them to have a run back. But this allows the KO team to get their players down field quicker. To tackle behind the 20, or possibly cause a fumble or a muff.
