The 2009 Draft was an Epic Failure

This has been talked about a million times. Time to move on.

Seriously?

If you want to know everyone's thoughts on the 2009 draft you probably won't have a hard time finding one of the countless threads that's already been made on the subject.

You want to talk about epic failures?
I'll tell you about epic failures.
Building Death Stars. Those are epic failures.
Oh yeah. It's powerful and gigantic. So what?
You build one. The rebels blow it up. POOF!
You build another one then POOF! The rebels blow it up.
Epic failure, man. Epic failure.

"Use the Force Luke. Let go Luke."
Yeah sure. That's easy for you to say.
The entire Rebel Alliance will be laughing at me if I miss this shot.
"Use the Force Luke."
JUST SHUT UP CASPER!

What can you say about a draft that was probably the worst ever for the franchise? Anytime your staff decides they're set and aims at fortifying the special teams as its primary goal, your asking for trouble from the get-go.

For starters, there was no 1st round pick as a result of the Roy Williams trade. From there, it didn't get much better. The picks, in order were as follows: 1. Jason Williams, 2. Robert Brewster, 3. Stephen McGee, 4. Victor Butler, 5. DeAngelo Williams, 6. DeAngelo Smith, 7. Michael Hamlin, 8. David Buehler, 9. Stephen Hodge, 10. Stephen Hodge, 11. John Phillips, 12. Mike Mickens, 13. and last but not least, Manuel Johnson.

No starters were to be had from the class and only six made the final roster. On top of that, Dallas traded its 2nd round pick to Buffalo for their 3rd and 4th rounders, which they used to select Andy Levitre. I'm guessing the natural response for such a war room tragedy might very well be bleeped.

Luke, the funny thing about being a Jedi Knight is
even though you get a lot of cool stuff like light sabers
and funky robes, you have to be celibate. Now, what's
more funny is how your father...

It's such a joke, wth happened to our franchise?

If it's a joke, it's one that nobody's laughing about unless they're fans of another team. I can't imagine a staff doing anything that far removed from resembling something sane.

It basically boils down to a college football program going a full season without getting a single recruit to sign with them.

STAR: 5 Years Later, Cowboys Still Learning From 2009 Draft

Last month at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando, the Cowboys learned they were receiving a few compensatory picks for the 2014 NFL Draft.

Immediately, the key number on everyone’s mind wasn’t three, the number of extra picks they were acquiring, and it wasn’t seven, the round in which all of the additional picks would fall.

Instead, the number most often referred to was 11, the number of total picks in the Cowboys’ pocket for this 2014 upcoming draft.

Eleven, the most the Cowboys have had since … dare we bring it up … the 2009 draft.

Seattle Seahawks 2009 Draft:

1. Aaron Curry
2. Max Unger
3. Deon Butler
4. Mike Teel
5. Courtney Greene
6. Nick Reed
7. Cameron Morrah

To be honest, after the first part of the 2nd round, there wasn't a lot of MVP's falling out of that years draft. Still, it was certainly a disappointing draft.
