With a contract like that, an astronomical 40 million guaranteed, I could see teams electing to draft a worthy corner in the 1st round to get that 5th year option on the contracts and to avoid having to re-sign an upcoming FA. Overall I think it bumps up every corner a little bit in the draft in days 2 and 3. That's a lot of money for a corner!

Sounds backwards, should be 17 mill guaranteed and 40 mill spread out. Odds are they pay a nice chunk to play without him at least one of those years. But he has all the leverage.

There was never a time where one CB could make a huge difference unless that cornerback was named Deion Sanders.

Not the worst deal in the world. It's only a 4 year deal and sherman is only JUST entering his years as a prime CB. The only downside is that he might get fat and happy and lose motivation with all those guaranteed $$$

I agree that trench players are important. But given how cheaply seattle acquired most of their front 7, they must think it's an easier commodity to replace. Elite skill position players like Sherman and thomas don't come along very often so that's y SEA locked them up. And let's face it, even if you pour massive resources into defensive backfield, there's no guarantee of quality (Carr and Mo Claiborne, anyone?)

Things will get interesting in Seattle when they make the decision on Wilson. Pay him big bucks and the downfall will begin. If they pass on that contract and draft another bus driver and use that money for linemen, we will see a smart organization in the works.
