Clippers sold for $2 Billion

Insane.

Estimates were about 1/2 of that or maybe up to 1.2 mil.

Wow

The LA market is massive though

What something is worth and what something is sold for can be different things. Just go to any pawn shop and see if they pay as much for an item as it is worth. I think they overpaid in this case. Sterling gets the last laugh.

Funny how that works out isn't it?

If Dallas went on the market, it would double that....at least. It is not their worth, it is what someone(group) is willing to pay.

Bidding war will drive the price up for anything.

I can't believe Steve Ballmer is going to pay $2B for a franchise that hasn't won a damn thing. Although, I think that time might be coming soon. The Lakers are hilarious, and the Clippers have all the star power and fan power in LA now.

Also, I think this is the appropriate way to fire up the home crowd.

So says the Mrs. The Mr.'s attorney says NOT SO FAST! Him say without the Mr.'s sig then it can't be done.

Hmm.

Not even Sterling is stupid enough to pass up $2 Billion. He will make some noise but take the money and run.

But it is really bizarre how this has developed; the most expensive sports franchise sale in history- at least in the US.

My understanding was that Sterling didn't have a legal leg to stand on... In more ways than one.

Why over pay THAT much?

because more than one person wanted to buy the team. You can't pay less money for something that it is in high demand.

Again "That" much??

What was offer just below that? 1 billion?

Yes "that" much. Here's a guy who is on his third or fourth attempt at buying a franchise and this one has multiple bidders, who are bidding over a billion a dollars ( the next highest bid was 1.2 billion BTW) for the team. So he wanted the team and paid 2 billion dollars for it. You call it overpaying, he calls it making it an investment into something he thinks can get him great return (Who doesn't see a Blake Griffin KIA commerical in there sleep these days). You can question it, but he put down an amount he thought no one would be able to get close enough to take away from him, and was right. Can't fault him for it.

There was a 1.6 billion dollar offer, but it was withdrawn. Not sure if it was before or after the 2 billion dollar offer.
