I know the season is a long time away but think about it, what happen if all those picks where for nothing?

I know some of the rookies will stand out this season and deliver what we want out of them but happens if it there a bust or they don't live up to our expectations?

Then I guess we'll suck and everyone will complain on here about how crappy our front office is and how poor we are at talent evaluation?

And then we'll try to do better next year.

Based on the last few drafts though, I'd say it's a long shot that ALL of these rooks end up being busts.

Preseason is the earliest opportunity for evaluating the rooks. We start formulating ideas of what they're capable of and how the coaches want to use them at that time.. Sure. The wait-and-see approach is painstakingly slow, but even microwave popcorn takes time to pop. And besides, who would want to eat raw popcorn?

mmm. crunchy.

This fan base has grown a somewhat thick skin to that premise;) We'll manage...

"What if the drafted rookies are a bust?"

Well, just maybe the opposite of what would happen if all our drafted rookies are not busts. :)

The real answer is that it depends on many things. If the vets play well, then it really doesn't matter how the rooks played. They would be just gravy. Which is the way it should be.

Teams which are relying on rookies for immediate impact usually don't do too well. Just an observation on my part from watching football for 40 years. I'm sure there is an exception here and there.

We have almost a quarter of a roster of UDFAs which is averagish. I think it is 22% and I don't remember what the date range is for that data. Most of the rest are drafted players although the % depends on FAs and signing those we wish to keep and can afford.

I've posted the percentages for each round drafted on multiple occasions. I guess I should keep that on my computer.

I don't expect every draft pick to be a quality player. My hope is you can get 3 or 4 young guys to develop into good starting players and a few others who will be solid role players.

I have a good feeling about Martin and Lawrence. Also, I think 2-3 of those 7th rounders and UDFAs will surprise.
After that, who knows.
But that'd be a success anyway.

One year isn't a long enough time to call them busts. If they all suck 3 years from now, we'll be in complete rebuild mode b/c Tony will be done as well.

Then get prepared for the umphteen million threads on JJ sucks, JG sucks, milk cost too much and it's JJ's fault, and even our cheerleaders look a little pudgy threads....well, ok, the cheerleadrs thread won't happen...
I think we will need a few years on the outcome of the draft. If we hit on a few it's a good start, let the others develop this year, and learn.

A tiny fraction of the complaining from our fans will be merited.

We draft higher next year. Next question.

Some of them WILL be a bust, but hopefully not all of them.

Define bust though. Martin, Lawrence, yes, but give them a few years regardless.
Street, Hitchens, possibly but not a bust if they don't make pro bowls.
7ths rounders, wouldn't consider busts, maybe a few disappointments, but can't call everyone a bust.
