Twitter: Dez media session

It could happen.

He and Jordy Nelson had very similar numbers, have similar size, speed, etc.
Nelson just signed for 4 years and 39 mil, with 16 guaranteed.
I think Dez is better and would top that. But maybe not by a ton....say 42-44 for 4 yrs.

I bet it's at least 15 per... At least. Wouldn't surprise me a bit for Jerry to make him the highest paid WR in the league.

What I really appreciate on top of his importance to the team is that he is not implying that he will hold the team over a barrel. He easily could, and knows he could. But he doesn't. He's a man. If the team lowballs him, his agent will deal with that ugliness...seems to appreciate the effort the Jones family invested in him but really hope negotiations don't try to amplify that.

Not happening....IMO.

But we'll see one way or the other.

In a y case, the an deserves to (and will) be well paid

Why don't you think it would happen? (Not that it would necessarily be smart, but that Jerry wouldn't do it.)

JJ does seem to like to top others and have a good point there. Emmitt, Aikman, Deion, etc. Dez is justifiable but hope the team still holds true to the more prudent approach (work for the 12/13). Don't do it just cuz, the media attention of Dez being top paid would bring back the unwarranted expectations and the scrutiny of his past, etc. (shouldn't be) You also know the media will mix in the lack of playoff success to the contract (Romo) when that shouldn't be in the discussion. Other teams are allowed to pay for talent...

You will get backlash from the Romo and Tyron Smith comments but you are 100% correct. Dez is the most impactful player and the true "freak" that can take over games and sway the momentum of the whole team along the way. Love Tony, but he doesn't do that (just not his personality which is fine). Dez is the heartbeat of the team.

Rip

Love Dez!

But honest question here; when is that time a SB winning team had a top 5 WR?

Most teams roll out 3 (or more) WRs at a time for much of the game. The position is therefore diluted on a single player basis.
It's awesome to have an elite one, but you can have the best passing game in the league without a top 5 guy.

Still hope and expect us to sign him, but just hope it's not Calvin Johnson money.

There was also a time when the NFL's leading rusher never won a Super Bowl. Then some guy named Emmitt Smith came along. Just sayin'.

There is no way i'd ever pay a WR 15 million a year......regardless how good he is. Talk about a salary cap killer.
