Wow talk about a FAIL: Lions starter tears ACL celebrating smh

Detroit Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while celebrating a sack in Sunday's 19-7 win over the Green Bay Packers and will miss the rest of the season.

Lions coach Jim Caldwell said at his news conference today that Tulloch needs surgery and will be placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Tulloch, who never has missed a game in his nine-year career, suffered the injury midway through the first quarter, after he stopped Aaron Rodgers for a 7-yard loss. Tulloch jumped to his feet and appeared to be mimicking Rodgers' touchdown dance when he collapsed to the ground.

He returned for two plays on the Lions' next defensive series but finished the game in street clothes, with a big bag of ice wrapped around his knee.

"It's unfortunate," Tulloch said after the game. "You're passionate about the game and you want to get up and celebrate, and it happened. People do it a million times, but unfortunately that it happened to me. But like I said, I've been healthy for nine years of my career; I've never missed a game, let alone damn near plays. Sitting on the sideline is new to me. It's sickening. But I'll be all right. I'll get back right and be able to help this team move forward, if everything goes well."

I was listening to NFL Radio and they were saying a play or couple plays before he actually injured the knee, so maybe the celebration just finished off the injury.

Roger Staubach remembers only one time he got mad at his favorite receiver. It was because, of all things, a celebration. It occurred after Drew Pearson's second touchdown against the New York Giants on Dec. 2, 1979. Pearson leaped into the air with the intention to toss the ball into the stands before thinking better of taking a $150 fine. After a moment of indecision, he awkwardly hit the ground, spraining his right knee.
Pearson actually scored a 44-yard touchdown his next snap despite limping on a post route, but he wasn't himself the rest of the season. He certainly wasn't himself when the Los Angeles Rams visited Texas Stadium for a playoff game a few weeks later and the Dallas Cowboys' comeback attempt fell short in what ended up being Staubach's final game. "To this day, I blame him for us not going to the Super Bowl in my last season," Staubach said. "That's how valuable he was." Of course, Staubach long ago forgave Pearson. In fact, the Hall of Fame quarterback was the driving force for Pearson getting a fitting, long overdue celebration for his career.
