First of all I'd like to apologize beforehand if this isn't in the right thread. I'm writing a research essay for school for my sports journalism class. We are required to research and write about who we feel is the worst gm in sports. I chose jerry Jones. Mainly because it's easy for me to write about. I'm asking the fellow zoners here for some websites for articles videos etc that can help me prove my point. Thanks in advance

This should be easy...

I'm sure there have been some books written about Jerry that you could find some real juice for your Grapefruit.

You gave me the idea to "Google" Jerry Jones quotes.
I think you should check some of those turkeys out.
I've never seen such aimless rambling and he is in one of the highest, most respected positions of a Billion Dollar Industry!

Here's a (sadly) more coherent one:
Regarding the contracts of several coaches including Jason Garrett, Monte Kiffin and Bill Callahan, the owner said, “I think you’ve got to assume that their contract status is (their status) until we do differently. Those guys … are still under contract. There are others that are under contract. There are others that are not. The real world is since I haven’t, we haven’t, addressed this thing is whatever their contract status is, and I don’t want to get into what that status is. But whatever it is, it is.”

I'm not trying to spam. I legitimately wanted help. I figured instead of going around looking I could ask people here and it would make my life easier. Since we are all cowboys fans and help eachother

I wonder if anybody could interpret that.

With Jerry you never know if its him talking or the Blue Label talking. In reality it makes no difference.

good luck. his track record shows he is a very mediocre GM. you will have to cherry pick quite a bit to show he is the worst.

You won't have to cherry pick at all to show he's the worst. Just remember to point out he had to hire the great Bill Parcells to come in and act as a quasi-GM to clean up his 5-11 mess and those years are the only reason the Cowboys have been a playoff contender at all in the last 10 years.

"he is the worst gm because he hired Bill Parcells"

I'm flunking the paper that is turned in with that idiocy.

He had to hire a hall of famer coach to sit in his GM chair and turn the roster around for him, genius. He gets no credit whatsoever for that as a GM, and the overall numbers since he's been at the gig don't reflect how bad he truly is.

Why? Because the Parcells years inflated his pathetic numbers. It put a decent core together for the future. Something Jerry couldn't and didn't do.

He's a 5-11 type GM and, for my money, the single worst in sports. Nobody has a worse eye for talent or a complete disregard for the authority of his own coaching staff than that lunatic.

Wow... I had never read that article before. Hard to believe it was written when I was 14 and it's still as relevant and accurate as ever.

This line in particular really struck a chord with me, because it's how I felt (and still feel) at the start of this year:

"[At the start of the season] I was surprised to feel not the customary elation or anticipation but a curious heaviness and despair. That's when I knew my love affair with the Cowboys was over. It had ended with a whimper rather than a bang.It wasn't just the procession of losing seasons. I'd lived through those before. I expected them, factored them into the equation. No, this was something else, something like a death in the family. The heartlessness, hopelessness, and haplessness of this present situation seemed permanent, irreconcilable. The Cowboys had lost their focus, their core, their substance, their relevancy. Even more surprising, I realized that I didn't care, and I wasn't sure anyone else did either."

Speaking of that very depressing Texas Monthly article... Has anyone here read that Jim Dent book King of the Cowboys from when Jerry took over?

One of the Amazon reviewers says it was so unflattering that Jerry bought all the copies he could find and sued the publisher. Sounds like Jerry.

While I love books on the Cowboys I am not sure I could stomach a whole book on Jerry.

I already know all I need to know about him as a person. He's slime.

after last night, I figured this one deserves a bump. We have built a truly dominating OL. The only guy Parcells can take credit for is the worst player on the OL.. how did the worst gm in football build such a dominating OL?
