Jerry Jones thinks Dallas may be overlooked as a contender

When you list the playoff contenders, don’t overlook the Cowboys.

That’s the word from the team’s owner and G.M., Jerry Jones, who said on his weekly radio show on KRLD that people who discount the Cowboys’ playoff chances do so at their peril.

“I think we’ve shown some things that would cause you to hold in discounting us,” Jones said, via the Star-Telegram. “That’s an awkward way of saying that we should be looked at out of the corner of peoples’ eye. We’ve got to do it, though. We’ve got to put it together, with putting the right people on the field as it relates to injury, and that’s happening for us. We could have [Henry] Melton out there this weekend. We could have [Rolando] McClain out there this weekend. We could have [Tyrone] Crawford moving over as the No. 3 tackle, and then moving out to end. Why? Because Anthony Spencer is going to be out there taking some snaps. Now that’s serious stuff.

“Get [Justin] Durant back in there, get [Rolando] McClain back at linebacker. Now, all of a sudden we’ve got about three or four players out there that arguably are the best defensive players that we hadn’t had the last two or three games. That’s a big deal. And if we’re that, then I think [Tony] Romo’s certainly getting his timing down. I like the experience our offensive line is getting and has gotten in these three games. Yes. Yeah. We need to be glanced at over here.”

What does someone really expect from just this kind of OP? Someone listening to actual content, might add an insight.

Otherwise, one is probably just looking for a fresh bottle of Ripple to magically appear and immediately have it's seal broken. Thus, being passed around the burn barrel.

You have to understand that there is a segment of fans who simply never want to hear a word out of Jerry's mouth unless he's stepping down. I am not at all a Jerry-the-GM fan and haven't been for a while, but the media knows that the haters and homers will come out in full force to read and comment on anything Jerry says, so they constantly look for ways to get him to say something on anything.

If a reporter asks, "Jerry, can the Cowboys make it to the Super Bowl?" and he responds with, "It's an uphill battle", the article will come out with a headline, "Jerry says Cowboys have no chance this year!" and Cowboys fans will say, "Way to give up on the team, Jerry!"

If he responds to that question with, "I don't know, but if we get some pieces back and a few things go our way, anything is possible including the Super Bowl." The articles will have the headline, "Jerry says Cowboys are Super Bowl bound!" and the haters will come out and say, "He's delusional!" and the homers will say, "I really wish Jerry would just shut up."

That's the main reason these threads are moved to the Jerry/Garrett/Rant Zone. Because the media manipulates their users, which unfortunately includes Cowboys fans, like puppets by poking Jerry for quotes non-stop and then selectively paraphrasing headlines based on partial context.

As I said, I desperately wish we had a real GM on this team. That said, I also wish people were not as naive to fall for the media's puppet manipulation tactics.

Quite revealing...as your name implies, Reality.

I am always up for being reminded to put my own pants on daily...as that deals with personal pride. Thanks for your reply...and as is your usual way, on target.

Funny, I don't remember a single headline or person saying that when Jerry made those comments a few weeks ago.

Jerry actually had a good week in my mind. (Yep I said it) Came out and gave Claiborne a much needed kick in the pants (a Steinbrenner moment). Like to see more of that as opposed to the rose colored glasses approach which hasnt worked in 20 years.
