What Was Garrett's Involvement in a Critical Time (3rd and Long)

Look...just as anyone here I am thrilled Dallas won!

I fact, since the team has demonstrated the inability to "know how to win", or how to "bounce back" in recent years I am beyond thrilled.

However reality does set it and there are still concerns...(as I am sure any team has, but ours stem from the top). This is not mean to slam Red (I am sure that will occur a few games from now...I am just confused by this leader of men).

Please explain to me why Red was not even in the discussion with Romo during the crucial 3 and long situation after a TO was called? To be honest I am not sure if it was the last drive of regulation, or in OT, I just saw Romo, and Linehan having a discussion during the TO, and JG just standing there looking off in to space and playing with his head set. Tony and Scott ddn't even open up their bodies to include him. (Maybe a blessing).

It's time management and things like this that lead to the loss of confidence fans see. Or the "learning on the job role" quote by Jerruh....

JJ was not necessarily a GREAT Xs and Os, guy, but during a time like that he would be engaged and at least listening...

What was happening? Does anyone know...Or did anyone see what I did?

Okay. You obviously don't like the question, but fail to really add any light to what he was doing.

Or do you simply not care that the HC is not involved in situations like this?

My issue is not to have a repeat of the Callahan situation last year when Romo changed the play (as part of his option), and not have Red step in.

Does it make sense to you now?

You took a 5 second camera over of the 30 second timeout ....... and made up a storyline for it.

Actually, since he is less involved in the offense now, it's not surprising at all to me. You let the guy running the offense make the call, especially f that guy has been doing a great job at that for most of the first five games.

You just now noticing that?

As I said...I do not want any replays of last year's fiascos and would hope he is in the conversations...THAT is my point.

As usual the "homers" get all up at arms and start thinking you are trashing someone when they don't objectively look at things.

Actually the camera was on them the whole time...but good try. Tell you what, if the thread bothers you so much. Or if you are just going to make up answers...don't comment on it. Seems like problem solved huh?

LOL, .. it's every sideline shot, all of the sideline shot, every game.

Pick any 5 second interval that you want.

Some people are convinced he's a bad coach and there is almost nothing he can do to change it.

I think the only way it changes for most of them is if the Cowboys have a great record and the announcers of the games / commentators start saying what a great job Garrett is doing.

You know how fans hear what the announcers say during the game and take it for the gospel...

I agree.

Just want to add something.

All coaches make mistakes and from my perspective it seems like a lot of coaches are making more mistakes than Garrett or at least more aggregious ones.

Also, all coaches take gambles. It's part of the game and it can't be avoided. Just because a gamble does not pan out does not always equal a mistake.

Bull ....... they did not leave the camera on Romo the entire timeout.

So don't make up scenarios.

You must have watched a different game...Or just one with Jerruh colored glasses on.

Again, I defer to the point of the HC maintaining some sort of overall control and contribution...especially in a critical spot.

Just so it gets posted again and hopefully read by other's.

Good post.

The 'reasoning' of the bolded portion gets you an ignore. Congratulations. People that reason like this are not worth listening to.

So your opinion is that Garrett is bad for this franchise?

My quote about Garrett was only about what he does on the sideline during games.

At this point it would be bad to get rid of him and start over with a new coach, I don't want that .. I hope he succeeds.

Having seen Jones strip so much of his responsibility from him, little by little, I'm not sure what he does and doesn't do anymore.

Thanks. I just wasn't sure where you stood on Garrett.

I'm not so sure his responsibility has been stripped from him, though. To me, it looks like he has the most power of any coach since Jimmy Johnson. Garrett certainly has changed the entire way the team looks for and gets talent... but that is just what I think.

We're all different.

Wow. This thread started with a really bad premise, and yet somehow got worse.

QB talks to coordinator during final drive: more at 11.

What do you see him add during games? If he is just a "walk around" coach, he does do that well.

I just don't see anyone interacting with him much at all, players or coaches.

He congratulates players when they come off the field, .. but I don't see him doing much coaching during games.

I don't have a lot of time to get into it tonight, but I think Garrett has a lot to do with installing the game plan and getting the team ready to implement it on game day. He simply allows the OC to implement what Garrett and he installed during the week.

If you want a more descriptive answer, I will have time tomorrow to give it if you want it.
