The tweet seems more speculative than anything else. He isnt quoting a source or anything.

Regardless, I'd like to wait longer. Theres no downside in waiting until the end of the year.

I hope not. This team still does not know how to put away games and that starts with him.

Let the season finish out before you decide what to do with him. Remember, we were in a great position in 2011 and 2013 and failed.

They were 2-3 after 5 games in both of those seasons and then 3-3 after 6 games. At worst next week they will be 4-2. I would say they are in better position now than they were in either one of those years.

Still not a huge fan of Garrett but I feel like they have him in a good place right now as far as his role as the head coach is. Not calling plays is allowing him the ability to focus on his strengths as a coach.

I also really like the rest of the coaching staff and would rather not break that up. There is something to be said about consistency and not changing your scheme and coaching staff every few years. There are a couple teams that remain irrelevant because of this.

Finally I feel like Garrett and Jerry have a good relationship and know where they stand with each other. Overhauling the staff may mean trouble again in personal decisions and would also be another set back for our defense. As an example a few years ago Baylor fans were calling for the head of their defense coordinator Bennett after a short amount of time. Turned out he just needed time to get a combination of his players and his system in place. Known lately as an offensive juggernaut Baylor won a game yesterday off of their defense, not offensive.

We seem to have a good thing going. Let's improve a few more positions in the off season and see where it takes us.

Really? Jerry Jones must want to run this organization into the ground trying to prove he's a great owner/GM. I realize Garret is his guy and doesn't want to look elsewhere at all cost, but please let the season play out. Seriously, what if the Cowboys collapse in December going 0-4 and quit on Garret? That 5 year extension would be looking mighty stupid.

And this Bald Head Sully person or whatever has been notoriously wrong.

Really hoping it is later in the season to see how it plays out.

JJ is completely committed to Garret. He's been wanting to do this. But, he probably feared the financial backlash from fans if he re-upped a perennial 8-8 coach. The 4-1 start allows JJ to get it done w/o much criticism. I can't say I have a problem with it. Get 'er done JJ!

What if Dallas goes 7-0 or 6-1 over their next 7 games before going 0-4 in December? I think 10 wins gets them in the playoffs.

Dallas plays 5 more games before their bye week. I think that will provide them a good idea of what direction the team is going this season. They aren't suggesting the extension is signed in the next week or two, but by the bye week.

They were 7-4 at one point in 2011 and it set up perfect for them at the end. Failed.

Making contract extensions after 5 games after 4 years of failure is very knee jerky and pointless. Let's see what happens.

The article didn't say he was getting the extension now after only 5 games. It said it would be done by the bye week, which would be 10 games into the season.

What does he do exactly that has left his coaching imprint on the team? Garrett doesn't run the offense anymore that I'm aware of, he's not involved with the defense. His teams have treaded water for years until we got an Oline and dedicated to the run this year.

It's probably just coincidence that the things Garrett supporters have been saying for years about playing hard and building a team identity and it being a process and being patient while the team overhauls it's talent seems to just paying off. Garrett's obviously just been in the right place at the right time during all of this. Thank god we lucked into those coordinators.

As much as I absolutely abhor Garrett and think he sucks and this has all to do with the changes JJ has forced down his throat and Jerry desire to show the world about his genius decision, you can't fire Garrett if they get to the play-offs and win a game. And they look like they are well on their way.

The problem is the length of the deal and other Assistant Coaches like BC on their last years. Callahan will be able to interview this year, for an OC position. If they are gone, things will fall apart really quickly. Plus, Romo is most likely not going to last 5 years and without him, it will blow up in JJs face. You can't hide incompetence for so long.

Better lock in Linehan and Marinelli too then.

And you can't even do that with Linehan... You need to wait some time to see if teams can adjust to his offense and see how he reacts.

Not really too surprising, I felt like Jerry was going to bring him back regardless of how this season played out.
