I figured it would be good to have an uplifting thread to ease the pain of last night's loss. What Positives did you take away from last night? Here's mine:

1) there is no way this team can become over confident for the remainder of the season.
2) we still lead the NFC East despite the loss.
3) the Commanders will have a false sense of hope for the remainder of the season, only to see their dreams get crushed again once they realize that the skins from last night was an anomaly and that RG will not be their savior.

That's all I got. What say you?

Let's hope the one big positive is Romo is not out for any extended amount of time. Count me in for number one as well.

Another one for me, it should make Linehan less likely to abandon the run going forward. After reading his quote that he will probably realize he should have run more after watching the film, I expect that he will know he can't over think our strategy. Our running game is the strength of this offense and opens the door for everything else...including our defense.

that's cool I just hope they don't overcompensate like they've done in the past when the media comes calling.

I thought Witten looked terrible.

He can't catch a ball that doesn't hit him right in the chest.

Agreed.
In the Emmitt days we would have rode him to victory on last drive.

Murray got his yards. Not a big deal to me, but good for him.

Playing Arizona next Sunday is yet another opportunity to excel. Dallas would be wise to make the most of it.

There's still a chance to head into the bye at 8-2. Even with a rocky finish, that could land them 10-11 wins, and that could be good enough to make the playoffs.

This.

If we lose to zona. That's 6-3.

A bad stretch of 4-3 or 3-4 down the stretch puts us at 10-6 or 9-7.

That would be rough.

I'm not really going to give a whole lot of positives here.

We didn't see anything necessarily positive that we didn't already know, other than Weeden looked better than I'd expected he would.

We knew we could run the ball. We proved that again last night. That's nothing new.

The defense is clearly the bend but don't break type. You have to help them out by keeping them off the field as much as possible. That means Dallas has to be willing to keep Murray in the 25+ carries per game area. It's simply a must.

What we did learn from this is that our new play caller also needs to learn the very simple nature that screen passes are very effective against blitzing like that last night. Someone pointed out how Weeden beat the blitz last night (in another thread) and his big play against the blitz came on a screen pass to Murray that picked up 28 yards. As far as I can remember that was the only screen pass we called all night.

The blitz problem wasn't one person. It was on Scott's game plan, it's on Romo, and it's on an a young O-line. None of the people listed there ever seemed to adjust to the problem they were having and they'd better figure it out really quickly because the NFL is on notice for it now. Arizona, as I recall, blitzed the heck out of Philly Sunday to help get their W and you can believe you're going to see quite a bit of it this Sunday against Dallas.

Going forward this team has got to learn to play to their own strengths (Running the ball, dominating the game) and not worry about what kind of big plays they may or may not get against a bad secondary. This isn't the first time this team has gone into a game bullheaded and just forcing the issue of trying to get deep, time consuming routes, down the field and it biting them in the butt. That has got to change.

Murray has got to stop the fumbling. He absolutely has to.

Dez has to show up like the star he is when the competition is bad, not just when the competition is good. Last night he was pretty much invisible. Did he even catch a ball in the second half? He had 3 catches for 30 yards and I'm almost certain every single one of those were by the mid point of the second quarter. That's simply not acceptable. This is another area where Scott needs to improve. Getting Dez the ball on some fast routes. Quick slants, drags, and some smoke screens. Give this athlete a chance to make big plays with his big run after the catch ability.

And Dez has no choice he has to make the plays when it's there for him. His dropped TD pass was simply not acceptable. You have to help you QB out at all times but even more so when it's a back up QB coming in to try and help you win a game.

Yeah, after today, I'm going to try and avoid thinking about what losing to Arizona could mean down the stretch. I know that could trigger a meltdown of epic proportions, and we'll get to hear about it all off season if that's the case.

No. Not a meltdown. It could trigger the mediocrity.... Then.... Last game meltdown.

Here's to the "will" (of the team) to not let that happen.... Again!

I would like to think that a loss like this to a division rival should light a fire in the belly for the next meeting. I always believe that the only reason the skins have success against us in these situations (when they are a really bad team), is because of what Hatcher pointed out, they hate us more than we hate them. We joke that this game is their SB, but that is the reason they walked out with a W and we failed to put a little distance between us and the other playoff contenders. We need to learn to hate our division rivals with a passion and apt a win at all cost mentality (the same way they approach us). In the division it's either kill or be killed....records and better talent doesn't matter.
