Interesting. He'll never reach Landry since that's just never going to happen again in the modern NFL, but he'll be firmly in the #2 slot when he finishes up here.

Whaaaaaaat? Lol jk ,I'm glad things are turning around for him and the boys! I admit I was a big time Garrett critic at first, but he has gained my respect by gaining the respect of the team

Landry with 270 wins out of 454 games over 29 seasons and a 60.1% winning percentage.

All other Cowboys coaches 234 wins out of 432 games over 25 plus seasons and a 54.2% winning percentage. (edited due to poorly done initial calcs)

10 years at 10 wins per year and he still is only at about 140. That's crazy lol

Not that impressive considering except for Landry, no coach stays long enough to rack up an impressive amount of wins. Garrett isn't helping himself pushing out 8-8 every year. He definitely helped himself this year by having proven OC and DC on staff.

I'll take Jimmy's tenure over all of them. He brought more titles to Dallas than anyone and didn't need 3 decades to do it.

...and he'll most likely have never won anything of consequence. It says loads about the ineptness and delusions of the GM for keeping him so long.

Just for that time period. His reign was going to quickly come to an end after free agency started. The fear he evoked wouldn't last once free agency came to be. ...which is why he was a complete and total failure in Miami. The players didn't fear him because they could up and go to another team where they didn't have a tyrant as a head coach.

Hard to believe that Jimmy did all he did with that few victories.

Unfortunately he should have had twice as many victories and 2-3 more SBs to boot. It's too bad that both JJs couldn't learn to play in the same sandbox. If they did, both would probably be in the HOF by now.

Besides, if I remember correctly, only 11 points divides Landry from having 5 Super Bowls rather than 2. In those games, sometimes the ball just didn't bounce the right way at critical times during the games. Especially in the case of the losses to the Stealers in the SB.

Jimmy was no failure in Miami. Certainly not like the job Landry did at the end of his tenure. Turning the Cowboys into the worst team in football before he got fired.

Still, all in all, I'll take the guy responsible for more titles. That's all I care about.

You have to be retired for 5 years first in order to go into the HOF don't you? If JJ and JJ had gotten along, then Jerry probably still would be Cowboys owner today, just like he is.

There is only a two game win/loss differences between Jimmy Johnson with Miami and Jason Garrett with the Cowboys. Garrett has had 3 straight 8-8 seasons. That isn't not good so neither was Jimmy in Miami.

Jimmy rebuilt that Dolphins defense in short order and had them in the playoffs. That's a far cry from the sad sack Tom Landry left the Cowboys.

There just is no comparison.

I've never understood the hatred Jerry received over firing Landry. What was Jerry supposed to do, let Landry coach until age 90?

Not to mention the sorry 3-13 record of Landry's Cowboys by then,

You're right.

Landry had 20 straight winning seasons.

To try and even compare Jimmy's five minute tenure and 2 Superbowl appearances to Landry's 5 Championship appearances and numerous other NFC Championship game appearances is one of the dumbest comparisons a person has ever attempted to make.

Landry got old, the Cowboys got old, and he was bad at the end.

I still don't recall any Landry teams being beaten down 60 something to 7 in a playoff game.

There should be no hatred for it. It was time to move on. It's just that Landry was an Icon. He basically was the Dallas Cowboys. Fans of the team from the beginning simply could not seperate the two.
