IRVING, Texas – Too many defensive linemen to choose from is a good problem to have these days for the Cowboys, especially after last season when the team brought in player after player seemingly each week.
Now Josh Brent enters the mix, creating even more of a case for playing time.
“It results in serious competition. All these guys want their reps,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Friday on his weekly radio show on KRLD-FM. “He’s (Brent) just chomping at the bit and you see things that are just really indicative of good teams in drills.”

Jones said Garrett will make the ultimate call on Brent’s status but added the defensive coordinator will have a say in the matter.
“That’s a decision that obviously Jason will make, but Rod Marinelli will be the key input there for him,” said Jones.

Might be a good idea for Brent to get his first game experience against the Giants rather than the Eagles. Let him knock off the rust against 3-7 rather than 7-3?

i think 5-7 reps is good, depending on his immediate impact on the game, maybe not even that many. But really it all matter on how he looks in practice. I read on the forum that other players think Brent is Explosively Strong

He needs to get some aggression out. It will be good for him and not so good for the guy in front of him.

He still has a debt to pay that he can never pay back.

Didn't get to hear the broadcast but have to say and after reading these quotes, I sense an aura of a healthy functioning football organization, font office, staff and players

"He has made a lot of great strides," Garrett said. "I think he is really changing his body and working hard at that. He understands the importance of doing that and how much it impacts on him on the field in terms of stamina and his ability to move throughout a play and from play to play. He has been a good player for us in the past. He is working hard to get back to that stage."
And that sentiment was echoed by Jones. “We’ve seen him drive that All-Pro center (Travis Frederick) into the backfield sometimes which is good for both of them.”

I love Fredbeard as much as everyone else, but he is an All-Pro now?

I'm not so sure he gets reps against either of them based on some comments that have been thrown out there on the Cowboys website talk shows.

Jerry was lying! Fisher and others are reporting that Brent is nothing more than scout team, and can't even get second team reps. There is little if any chance of him playing this weekend, according to those reports.

This is what I want to hear

For once jerry opened his mouth and something halfway decent came out

Bravo jerry

id trust what the players say over anyone else...and when you have guys saying he's the strongest on the team...that really says something

There are only 46 spot on the game day roster. They need the 4th DT to take more than 5 reps. If they carry 5 DTs that puts them short on Special Teams.

I think another way to look at it is do you wanna play him again 4 days later after his first action in 2 years? When you can ease him in with 2 games a week apart prior to out pseudo bye when he can be firmly entrenched in the D. Not mention, chances are we would have Dlinemen that would be too beat up from Sunday to play on Thursday.
