Are Cowboys legit Super Bowl contenders?

Of course we are..

I just don't think we can get their because of our path to the Super Bowl.

I don't think Seattle or Green Bay could pull off what we will have to pull off just to get to the Super Bowl.

With the way this defense has been playing the last 3 games, I would have to say YES. Nine turnovers the last 3 games..5 by interceptions..6 sacks the last 2 games (it may not seem like much but 4 were in the 4 quarter..one resulted in a sack/fumble & recovery). The offense is playing lights out. I'd line us up against any team in the NFL & feel good about our chances at winning the ball game.

Seattle was not at full strength or were they manhandled in the trenches and that's just an excuse by ESPN?

I like this one, where Leary drives Malcolm Smith 12 yards deep into Richard Sherman, Zach Martin destroys Kam Chancellor and oh
there's Bobby Wagner playing the pass.

This one is good too. Parnell and Clutts absolutely bury Kevin Williams, Fred Beard Destroys Brandon Mebane and Kam Chancellor, Zach Martin takes out Bobby Wagner, Leary is 10 yards down field again this time killing KJ Wright and Sherman has no chance one on one against Demarco Murray.

Watch each block on an individual basis (wow) and you will see domination of the trenches. It wasn't that Seattle wasn't healthy, it's they have never been dominated or should I say bullied like this by anyone.

The Seahawks were healthy when we played. They were pretty butt sore after the game. They wind up losing Wagner, Chancellor and Mebane weeks later after we played.

There's no excuse...what we did to them is very real.

Great Post. I'll add this: Everybody is talking about how the Seahawks have improved and are playing well right now. That is true. But what is also true is that the Cowboys have also improved as the season progressed and are playing well right now.

Right now I have to say we're a year away because I just have a feeling our defense is going to let us down just enough in the playoffs to keep us from really contending for the Superbowl.

I do think we're much closer than we've been in many, many, many years.

As unexpected as this season has been for the Cowboys who knows where they'll be a year from now. They're going to have to come back next season and try and validate the 2014 season to prove it wasn't a fluke. The season they're having wasn't expected not even close. You could see something building in the early 90's as the team gradually improved from 1-15 in 89 to 7-9 in 90 to 11-5 and a playoff win in 91 to 13-3 and a championship in 92. After 3 straight 8-8 seasons and a rough offseason that brought on a lot of doom and gloom predictions it's hard to say what lies ahead next season and beyond for the Cowboys. The team could be right back to 8-8 next season if they lose Murray and Romo has to go back to shouldering the load again. With the Cowboys tied for the best record in the NFC and with no dominate team out there this may be their best chance to win a SB with Romo. He's having his best season and Murray is leading the league in rushing and it's not going to be easy for the Cowboys to duplicate or surpass this season next year. The defense is going to be an issue and it may be an issue for the next few years because there's a number of holes that have to be filled.

Not having a dominate team out there gives the Cowboys a legit chance despite their defense although I do agree their D will probably be their undoing in the playoffs. The Packers are one of the leading contenders and they also have some defensive issues but they're able to overcome them due to Rodgers and their offense. If Rodgers has an off game in the playoffs the Packers will be done. Every team in the league has taken some lumps this season which has the SB up for grabs. The Cowboys need to take advantage of the opportunity they have this season because it may be many years before they get another one. It appeared after their playoff win in 09 there would be many more opportunities in the coming years but that was the last one until this year. With a salary cap and free agency you never know what kind of team you're going to have from year to year so you have to take advantage of every playoff opportunity which have been few and far between for the Cowboys since the late 90's. Not everyone can stay in contention every year like NE. The Cowboys have a legit chance this season to do something special it's not likely but they have a chance. They've been surprising everyone all year and maybe they can continue to surprise in the playoffs.
