One the early 60's pop music wonders passed away due to lung cancer.

Most famous for her #1 hit, "It's My Party And I'll Cry If I Want To".

Can't imagine starting my music career in '63 just when the Beatles were blasting off into space and people's consciousness.

Yeah, that was a cold slap in the face for many artists.

Surprisingly Gore's last top-10 hit, "You Don't Own Me" ended up being #2, right behind the Beatles "I Want Hold Your Hand".

It was probably easier for her to accept because she had only started charting the previous year (and was only 17 at the time) when others like Elvis, Neil Sedaka, Chubby Checker, Ricky Nelson, Frankie Avalon, all the do-wop groups and virtually all the girl groups, who had been charting for several years were gone almost immediately from the charts.

Have a friend who's a record producer and about 17 years ago we were at a function and met several musicians from the 60's/70's and for years I thought one of them was Lesley Gore but it turned out to be Jackie DeShannon who was best known for the song "what the world needs now is love."

Jackie DeShannon– amazing song writer.

Don't know much about her didn't even realize I met her. Her and several others were way before my time and for some reason I thought Lesley Gore sang "What The World Needs Now Is Love" because the song was mentioned so for years she's the one I thought I met until I heard the song on the radio one day and they said that was Jackie DeShannon. Funny how you can here an old song and confuse the artists it's not the first time I've done that. I remember a song back in the early 70's called "Don't Pull Your Love" and for years I thought that was Elvis because the lead singer sounded a little like him. Turned out the song was by a group called Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds.

Just like most people think that Escape (if you like Pina Coladas) is Jimmy Buffett, but it's really Rupert Holmes. If you asked 10 people who were around to hear that song played on the radio, I'll bet over half of them would say it is a Jimmy Buffett song.

The first time I heard this song I thought it was Michael Bolton.

For years I thought this song was by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
