although it may not be a huge loss since Free is our starter and Parnell is just a rotational backup guy, but he did a good job filling in when he had to and think we might miss him. Who is the man now?

Also, I cannot foresee the Cowboys staying put with Mcfadden as our answer to Demarco's departure. I really can't. He says all the right things but who doesn't when they get a chance to play for the Cowboys. I would be highly upset if they didn't draft one of the top RBs if available with our top pick. The guys coming out in this years draft really intrigue me.

Doesn't have to be a first rounder...draft has plenty of depth

Even a 2nd or 3rd rounder should work

Dallas for sure has not said McFadden is taking Murray's place. They haven't evensId he would make the team

You lose depth with Parnell but he's replaceable. As for McFadden the Cowboys aren't going to stay put with him they'll draft one of the top RB's next month hoping to land their next Murray. McFadden is here due to the loss of Murray and the possible release of Randle due to off the field concerns. He'll have a role similar to Randle and possibly be part of a 2-3 back rotation if the Cowboys decide to go that route. The Cowboys want to be able to work their rookie RB in slowly and having an experienced veteran back in the fold will allow them to do that. The loss of Murray moved everyone up so the Cowboys had to counter the loss by adding another back.

I think we made a big mistake not extending Parnell during the year when the cost was more reasonable. The guy did not allow a sack last year. He was a load at the point of attack but does need some work when blocking on the backside of those stretch plays. He has now played in a grand total of 11 games and still learning the position. Your question about backups is very relevant as Free missed a lot of games last year and just turned 31. The answer is that we have no one capable of stepping in without embarassing himself and threatening Romo's health.

I really wouldn't be surprised if we draft a RT in the first two rounds. This need could have been deferred with Parnell but not with Free.

I think our contingency would be to put Zach Martin at RT and put Bernardeau at RG if Free goes down and there goes our running game.

As for McFadden I think he is insurance in case Ryan Williams continues to struggle in pass protection and Randle continues to do dumb things off of the field. You just don't average 3.3 ypc over 3 years unless you are basically done. If everyone on the Raiders were that bad then you could give him a pass but I think others were more productive. I would be quite surprised if we don't draft a RB in the top 4 rounds.

I think we go best available. See who falls to us. I'd be ecstatic w a rb of Gurley or Gordon but this draft is loaded w backs

Think we'll get a corner in round one.

Rb will come later in the draft

this was my prediction too,a good corner is insanely expensive in FA.it better to draft and develop them, look for Kevin Johnson and Darby.I dont think Marcus peters will be on our board.

We cant assume that the FO didn't try to resign Parnell.. I believe Callahan screwed us when he said "Parnell could start for most teams". Once that statement was said, I knew we was only going to retain one of our RT. Free proved he was a much better than Parnell and isn't that much older than him. Just like Murray, I'm happy for the former basketball player(Parnell) to land a big contract bc its probably the only one he'll receive once Jacksonville realizes they overpaid for his services. The fact that he didn't give up a sack is misleading bc when he was in, the TE's had to work his side more to help block. Trust the process guys. We found Parnell and was able to turn him into a capable backup, why couldn't we doing again with Tony Hills (6'5"-304), Donald Hawkins (6'4"-310 22yo), or Darrion Weems (6'5"-310 26yo)? Bottom line, if all we're worried ab on the OL is our back-ups.. well, we're doing better than most teams already.

Dallas's FO has said they're going BPA in the first round, but have notably picked players that can start right away. That being said..LB, DT, DE, RB, OL..I would bet will be our pick. CB, WR, FS, QB have longer learning curves.. But don't be surprised if they trade out of the first round all together.

Unless there's really good value at 27, I see us trading down so we have two 2nd round picks + a 4-5 so we can move our second earlier; then we could get a DL & CB in round two and get our RB in round three.

This is right on.

Parnell went undrafted and was a practice squad player before the cowboys signed him to a 3yr/4m dollar deal in 2012.

The cowboys pro scouting dept recognized his talent, and the coaches were able to develop him into the player he is now.

We may have lost Parnell, but we still have the ability to scout & develop players.
