1. Bans defensive players from pushing teammates at the line of scrimmage when the offense is in punt formation. (This rule already exists for situations when the offense is in field goal or extra point formation.)

2. Prohibits all offensive players from engaging in peel back blocks.

3. Gives receivers defenseless player protection when a pass is intercepted.

4. Makes it illegal for a running back to chop a defensive player engaged above the waist by another offensive player outside the tackle box.

5. Allows an injury spotter to stop the game if a player appears to have suffered a brain injury.

Yuck. No peel back blocks at all, which is one of the best parts of the game. Interceptions can be overturned, I guess, if a receiver is hit in the head by an intercepting DB? No issue with 1, 4, and 5.

The game won't be recognizable in five years.

This is in addition to that ridiculous catch rule change, which was just the NFL trying to claim it was right about Dez all along.

the league was right about the Dez incomplete call

The rule needed to be clarified in such a way to make that very obvious catch stand. Get rid of ridiculous the technicality.

Instead, it reinforced the ridiculous technicality. Every living person knows he caught the football, but a poorly written rule took it away.

I don't think they would overturn the interception. They would just give 15 yards to the intercepting team and let them keep the ball.

What's a peel back block in this rule?

Any block on a defender turning upfield to chase a ball carrier. They outlawed the low and high blocks already. Now you can't block them at all.

You see these on punts a lot.

Basically the game is heading towards a rugby style of player engagement.

Essentially any hit deemed 'hard/violent' will be penalized no matter the situation.

I don't give a dam what the rule says.......

If Dez caught a pass in the enzone and flipped it to an official a second after he caught its a TD.
He had that ball for 3 seconds once he caught it!
What would happen if he did the same thing on the sidelines and went into the opposing teams bench and a player from the other team happened to "accidentally knock the ball loose" while Dez is on his way to the ground? the rule sucks and it should be a judgement call.
This is the MULTI BILLION DOLLAR A YEAR NFL.

HIRE 10 RETIRED OFFICIALS (WITH GOOD VISIONS) TO SIT IN A ROOM ON GAME DAYS AND HAVE EVERY BIG CHALLENGE PLAY THAT IS QUESTIONABLE BE REVIEWED BY 5 OF THEM AND HAVE EACH ONE VOTE ON THE PLAY. FOR SOMETHING LIKE THE DEZ CATCH AND THE MEGATRON CATCH THEY HAVE TO START USING A LITTLE COMMON SENSE OF JUDGEMENT OVER RULES. OFFENSIVE HOLDING IS A RULE AND COULD BE CALLED TWICE ON EVERY PLAY IN THE NFL BUT THEY LET IT SLIDE EVERY PLAY.

Yes, all caps and I am ranting because I am still pissed we lost that game due to a call and a fumble.

the NFL went on very well for 70 years without anything like that rule.
