Cowboys 2015 Draft Quick Review

For months leading up to the draft people scream BPA but when the Cowboys actually draft BPA people don't like it.

I would love to know which players that might have wanted but didn't get.

I think almost all the people kvetching would be happy if you turned the LB in the 4th into Ajayi. I really swear the biggest consistent gripe is why didn't we draft a RB.

60 DE/OLB Randy Gregory Nebraska
Many had him rated as the top pass rusher in the draft. Size is a concern, but not that much if you really study his power and his excellent ability to play the run. The combination of both size and the weed issue is a concern, but at #60 the risk/reward is really good. I’m not really worried about his ability to play at his weight. It’s more of an issue in terms holding up and avoiding injury game after game while battling with big OLinemen.

The risk/reward is what makes this such a great pick. Taking Gregory at 15 you have to have him develop into a 3 down starter and 10 sack per season player. Taking him at 60 and letting him start as a backup to Hardy, you are guaranteed to get value. Then if he develops into a guy who gives you 10 sacks per year, you got huge value picking him at 60.

I don't know if Ajayi is vastly superior to what we have on the roster already.

Yeah, would loved the fly-on-the-wall role.

Overview:

127 LB Damien Wilson Minnesota - Good player. Did they need more LBs?

Reviews:

127 LB Damien Wilson Minnesota
A Hitchens clone. Faster in game footage than timed speed. Like Hitchens, should be ready to contribute as a rookie if needed. Can probably play all 3 positions. The question for most people is if the Cowboys really needed another LB, but BPA is always a good way to draft. Might be a tad faster than Hitchen in game footage and has long arms.

I don't know anything about Wilson but I hope he has starter talent. If he's any good, and Lee and Ro are what I think they are, he'll start at least 4 games.

I didn't think that Nzeocha worked out at a Pro Day, but apparently he did. This was on twitter.

All the numbers are up in a story on BTB.

While at Wyoming, he didn't put his time to waste. Nzeocha majored in finance, earning a 3.41 grade point average. And despite still recovering from his ACL tear, Nzeocha put up spectacular numbers at his Pro Day.

Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 232
Arms: 33"
Hands: 10"
40yd: 4.52
10yd: 1.56
Bench: 24
Vert: 39"
Broad: 10' 11"
3Cone: 6.92
20ss: 4.30
pSPARQ: 140.7
NFL%: 95.3

Nzeocha's SPARQ score of 140.7 is the second highest of all linebackers in this draft class, and that certainly warrants drafting him, as rabblerousr explained in his scouting profile of Nzeocha in April.

Thanks.

I guess this screws up my plan to put him on IR for the year.

Those numbers are pretty impressive if he's only six months out from his injury. It makes you wonder what his numbers would have been like if he had more recovery time.

10 yard split of 1.56 has to be the top 3 for LBs,i still think this guy is a long shot to make the team.

NFI might be a possibility.

His ACL tear was in October, so Dallas can probably put Mark Nzeocha on NFI when training camp opens.

Chris Whaley was on NFI last year with the same injury, I believe.

Mariatti was smiling huge after this draft...so, I was also.

Had Darren Woodson written all over him. Same size, speed, and character. I think we drafted our 2016 safety tandem with Jones.

Can they claim that he is injured after he ran at his Pro Day?

I would send that guy money to make some more videos. He has a few more and they're all terrific even if you're not interesting in the specific players.

Gregory is a wow, player, no doubt. I love how he can drive the #9 overall pick, 330 pound Flower straight back.

I believe so.

The NFI list can be used for any draft pick that suffered an injury while in college.

That doesn't mean any little ding will qualify, it must be a major injury that resulted in the player missing at least 6 weeks of practice from the date of the injury.

Mark Nzeocha definitely qualifies.

Will it be necessary?

Maybe, maybe not.

There's no harm in starting out on active/NFI when training camp opens. Players can be taken off the list as soon as they are ready to pass their physical and may then start practicing.

If they don't come off the list, they will revert to inactive/NFI when the regular season starts and miss at least the first 6 games just like PUP.
