Bruce Arians: Cardinals planning no-huddle approach

With veteran quarterback Carson Palmer set to return, the Arizona Cardinals plan to pick up the pace this season with a heavier dose of the no-huddle.
"We can play real fast right now," coach Bruce Arians told the team's official website after Monday's practice featured plenty of no-huddle snaps. "I like the tempo of it. It's gone really well the whole time we've been out here, but this is the first time we've actually practiced it against the defense."

It was Arians who said two offseasons ago that his defense was "way outplaying our offense," noting that his skill position players were "not picking it up fast enough." By now the Cardinals are littered with pass-catchers and runners who know the playbook, allowing Arians to get frisky with tempo.

Arizona is in my top 5 NFC teams as far as pre season rankings.

I think the 5 teams capable of making it to the NFC championship game are Dallas, Philly, Seattle, Arizona, Green Bay - (not ranked in any particular order).

After those 5 i really dont think any other team is a legit contender - and im not completely sold on Philly being in that group but for the sake of having 5 i think they (philly) are better than most of the otrhers.

I don't like the way the uptempo style is spreading around the league. Chip Kelly isn't the first (New England runs a lot of it) but its a copycat league and unfortunately the league is copying the college game too much. Its great for the casual fans I guess. I see it as a gimmick offense that succeeds by taking advantage of the fact that the defenses have to react to the offense formations and personnel.

I hope they fail miserably with the Eagles so this gimmick can go the way of the run and shoot offense.

The Cardinals are still lacking at a few spots to make it to the NFCG in my opinion. I think the QB spot is one of them even with Palmer coming back. That guy has been inconsistent for a few years now and is coming off a major injury.

but they do have a very good defense and a lot of wr - i think it could depend on if they can get a good run game going and ask palmer to do a little less. Palmer's certainly capable of "bus driving" the team deep into the playoffs with that defense, but if he has to throw too many attempts per game i dont like his chances.

Also, I think Arians is a very good coach and good game day/game planning coach.

Arians is a good coach. That's a good team. I have no doubt he's figuring things out on offense. Even with the QB limitations.

I actually think that Palmer played really well, when he actually played, last season. If you look at his numbers, he was right at 63% completion percentage and his QB Rating was over 95. If he can stay healthy, they can be really, really good IMO.

If I'm not mistaken, Palmer did quite a lot of no-huddle whilst in Cincy so he should be well familiar and comfortable with it.

The year before he threw 22 interceptions and had a passer rating of 84. He is inconsistent and this year he has to come back from a major knee injury. Part of any QB improving or at least staying at the top of their game is being able to get good workouts and reps during the off season. Look at Romo last year. His recovery from back injury made him very rusty at the beginning of the season. I expect the same from Palmer.

The year before, it was a new offense, a new team, a lot of new players and a lot of learning for the entire team. I think what you say is true but I also think that he showed last year that if he's healthy, he can play well in that scheme. I don't disagree with you, he did struggle in 2013. However, I think he's shown that he can be effective if he's healthy.

I agree it is a very good defense but man in that hurry up if you are going 3 and out quickly sticking the defense back out there even very good defense will start to break down.

thats a good point. I still think they are "in the mix" throughout the season because a lot of the NFC teams just are not very good right now. But in the playoffs the QB position will likely have them out early. I bet that game between the eagles and cards is going to be real intersting Dec 20.

The Bills did not have comparable talent to the Cowboys of the early 1990s. Buffalo and around the same amount of big name stars, but they had nowhere the quality depth that Dallas had. The two deep on the Cowboys of that era was incredible.
