But to me, he's worth a conditional 7th round pick now to get him on the roster before training camp. He's young, no injury history, costs only $660k, is In a contract year so motivated, he's very talented (he was once the #1 overall rated high school RB and Buffalo traded a draft pick to get him from Philly), and he would immediately be the most physical back we have at 6'0" 225. Obvious downside too because he's a bit of an entitled and immature player, and may need lots of work in pass pro. But I like being proactive now and giving him a true chance to learn the system, rather than waiting for McFadden and Williams to inevitably get injured during training camp and having to take whoever is left or trade a higher pick. Thoughts?

With his history with dooley, I would say the odds are better for ray rice.

No reason for Buffalo to trade him now. One or two injuries, and he's the starter.

If they wish to trade, wait as long as possible for a RB hungry team to offer more than a conditional 7th.

He has some talent, but also has a lot of issues.

He has personality/character issues that showed up in college (Tennessee and Kansas State), with the Eagles and with the Bills.

He also has fumble issues.

He had a decent rookie year (2012) with 115 carries for 564 yards (avg 4.9) but had 4 fumbles. He had 13 receptions. That is a 1 fumble per 32 touches which is really bad. Murray had 1 in 89 in 2014 he we thought that was terrible.

It would need to be a conditional 7th, IMO. Conditional on him being on the roster for 10 games.

Bills RB Bryce Brown (personal) not partaking in voluntary workouts

Bills running back Bryce Brown has been unable to participate in voluntary offseason workouts because of personal reasons, running backs coach Anthony Lynn said Tuesday.


"Bryce is doing what he has to do right now, taking care of his family in the offseason," Lynn said, per ESPN. "But yes, it will set him back. I mean, he's five, six weeks behind everyone else. Once he gets here it's going to be hard to slow down and catch him up. That's one of my biggest concerns.


"But he's got the playbook and hopefully he's taking care of his business and he'll come in in great shape and we'll see what happens."


Although coach Rex Ryan called out Brown in March about his fumbling issues, general manager Doug Whaley has implored the coaching staff to give Brown a "clean slate."


"Rex has a way of motivating guys and getting his point across. I think Bryce got the point," Lynn said. "It's more mental than drills: just helping him know and feel where the ball is, just having an awareness of where the ball is.


"Runners naturally are going to swing the ball, when you try to maintain your balance and fall and all those types of things. But when you have that awareness of where the ball is, then you can protect it more times than not."

"I mean other than that (fumble) I thought I did pretty well," Brown said of the Kansas City game. "At the end of the day, you have to finish and keep improving. I don't see the talent gap to be great enough between Bryce Brown and our backs. In fact I would hope our backs had the edge, even if slight.

Eh, I'd argue that Brown is more of a "special" talent than Randle is, the guy is just so damn quick and fast. Either way, Randle is our guy, and I'm okay with that.

If McFadden and Williams can't stay healthy through camp, then jettison them and bring in Chris Johnson for instance.

I think Chris Johnson will only sign right now for a significant contract. If he would sign for a non-guaranteed veteran's minimum, he would already be on a team, IMO. I think he would want enough guaranteed that a team would not bring him to training camp and then cut him if younger, cheaper options develop.

If I had made tens of millions like he has, I would not put myself though the beating that an NFL RB takes for 800K.

I am willing to gamble on any RB considering that two of the top RBs on the roster are injuries waiting to happen. Let's be honest DMac and Ryan has already missed time in OTAs. This will only be the tip of the iceberg for things to come. The RB position has not been handled well at all this offseason.

That's a nice little catchphrase that is quickly turning into a cliche, so there is some truth to it. But there are a lot of RB's that are available that aren't worth getting.
