With wide receiver Dez Bryant — or those close to Dez Bryant — threatening to boycott regular season games, the Cowboys are using their own pulpit to illustrate the difference in bargaining positions.

Via the team’s official website, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said there was still “wide gap” in negotiations with their franchise-tagged wide receiver.

“I’m not a good speculator, but I will say this is the tough side of our game – the side that the fans don’t probably love to talk about,” Jones said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “But there is a business side of it, and we’re doing what we can do, our goal ultimately being to sign Dez to a long-term contract – and I know Dez would like to have one. But this is an environment right now with a receiver market that’s not exactly easy to get your hands around.”

Dez is better than them..and he is more valuable to Dallas...so pay him what he is worth...and let the other teams fall in line BEHIND you!

I do...it is not enough security for someone who has gave you top notch production while playing for PEANUTS his first 5 years

Here are the base numbers to the five-year contract signed by rookie receiver Dez Bryant, as filed with the NFLPA.
He got a $1.95 million signing bonus and an immediate $570,000 roster bonus
His base salaries and cap values are:
2010 $320,000 and $1.28 million
2011 $1,112,500 million and $1,502,500 million
2012 $1,335,000 million and $1,725,000 million
2013 $1,557,500 million and $1,947,500 million
2014 $1,780,000 million and $2,170,000 million

Are you suggesting his compensation matches his production and impact on this offense?

Give me some of THOSE peanuts.

Whatever. They pay him $17 million today, you are going to be one of the ones complaining 4 years from now when his productivity has dropped off and we have to let other younger more productive players go. You can have your Ratcliffs. I like the team actually making sound financial decisions. WRers do NOT win superbowls. He - no receiver - is worth 17 million a year.

You people are HILARIOUS. The Cowboys are a billon dollar company....do you think Jerry would sell it tomorrow for 100m? I mean 100m is a LOT of money. But the money Dez has been paid so far is PLENTY of money to some of you. Well Jerry could sell you tickets, beer, parking, suites etc....for a LOT LESS than he does...because he has PLENTY of money...but does that stop him from continuing to charge a premium?

Tell that to Jerry Rice

12 million is plenty of security... 12 million next year on top of this year is even more security... he will hardly be "playing for PEANUTS"... we are fans.. not agents.

12 million may sound like a lot for a guy whose already made millions, but not when you consider he's got a family to feed.

I've heard they're big eaters too.

I stand with the Cowboys on this. As I do whenever there's a team/player issue. I'd call his bluff and see if he sits out. If he does, he will have written his ticket out of Dallas as soon as the tags dry up. No interest whatsoever in re-signing that kind of player.

No WR is worth 17 mil... tag him twice or trade him

I agree no WR is worth 17 a year. To say tag him and trade him is a joke. Like he doesnt mean anything to the team? Romo himself said the OTAs, Minicamp, and Training camp wont be the same without his passion and intensity. To be quite honest i want a deal done simply for the fact our number one draft pick is going up against our 2nd and 3rd receivers. Id rather him go up against the best and hit the ground running come season opener. Dez does far more for this offense then most people realize. Lose him, it hurts us way more then losing Murray did.

Do you not realize there is a salary cap? If there wasn't a salary cap, we'd have the big payroll in the league and Dez would already have a $17m contract. Did you just start watching football a couple of weeks ago?
