News: PFT: Stephen Jones: “Too big a divide” to do a Dez Bryant deal now

I agree no WR is worth 17 a year. To say tag him and trade him is a joke. Like he doesnt mean anything to the team? Romo himself said the OTAs, Minicamp, and Training camp wont be the same without his passion and intensity. To be quite honest i want a deal done simply for the fact our number one draft pick is going up against our 2nd and 3rd receivers. Id rather him go up against the best and hit the ground running come season opener. Dez does far more for this offense then most people realize. Lose him, it hurts us way more then losing Murray did.

I agree 100% but 17 mil is Ludacris I'd go 14.5+ mil and no more

I love Dez as much as the next man, but for 17 million, don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.

He will play under the tag.

Plus the rumor is Manning wants Thomas signed so let him get signed and set the market.

I've been saying this since they tagged and others said it was just a formality and thought it wouldnt be hard to get a deal done. When the teams original offer was 11m and 20m guarantee and the player is asking for cj type money there is no reasonable middle ground. The fact that some actually thought he wasn't asking for cj type money is laughable.

I do...it is not enough security for someone who has gave you top notch production while playing for PEANUTS his first 5 years
Not for me, but I'll comment....
You pay for the future and not the past.

I want him paid well too.

What do you suggest Dallas pay him?

I think D Thomas or AJ will set the market and Dez will get 10%-15% higher than them APY

You people are HILARIOUS. The Cowboys are a billon dollar company....do you think Jerry would sell it tomorrow for 100m? I mean 100m is a LOT of money. But the money Dez has been paid so far is PLENTY of money to some of you. Well Jerry could sell you tickets, beer, parking, suites etc....for a LOT LESS than he does...because he has PLENTY of money...but does that stop him from continuing to charge a premium?
Jerry isn't pinching pennies here.
Surely you must know that.

This is all about the cap going forward and dollars allocated to the offense and defense.
It's also based on the teams perceived value of any WR in relational the overall cap.

Many feel KC may have overpaid Maclin at 55 mil for 5 years and 22.5 guaranteed.
Dez and Maclin had extremely similar numbers last year.

NO, in no way would I ever say Maclin is as good as Dez, but 11 mil vs 17 mil is a gigantic difference for very similar production.

I love Dez in Dallas.
But he was 8th in receiving yards, 13th in catches.
He was also 1st in TDs. But that is considered the least reliable of the 3 stats (though I'd argue for Dez there)

If they asking for what some say they are, they will not get it.
Tag city.

I don't know....but I am just wondering why we are letting AJ Green...or Demryius Thomas or Julio Jones set the market...are any of these guys better? Are any of these guys more valuable to their team? So what if one of them gets 60 million with 35m guaranteed. You going to give Dez LESS than that?

How many times have we heard people say Micheal Irvin was the real leader of those 90s teams. Why? Becuase of his ability first and foremost. But also his passion, his intensity...it elevated everyone. We thought we had leaders until we got rid of certain guys and allowed Dez to be himself...and you see how inspirationl it was. So the catches, TDs, run after catch is just part of it. He is the heart and soul of this team

If we are going to compare Jeremy Maclin and Dez Bryant...I cannot even have this conversation with you

From the sound of it, Dez needs to just sign the tag tender and get ready for this season. He'll lose $800K per game that he sits out, that's ludicrous.

12 million may sound like a lot for a guy whose already made millions, but not when you consider he's got a family to feed.

I've heard they're big eaters too.

I stand with the Cowboys on this. As I do whenever there's a team/player issue. I'd call his bluff and see if he sits out. If he does, he will have written his ticket out of Dallas as soon as the tags dry up. No interest whatsoever in re-signing that kind of player.
You've become pretty good at this (though it's still largely obvious).

I think if they got that, we would give Dez that much or more.

Many people would argue that all three of those guys are as good as Dez.
I kind of doubt it.

NFL.com recently listed the top 9 most indispensable non QBs on offense in the league.
Dez was not listed. Jones and Green were. They said if they had a 10th it would be Thomas.

You didn't read my post then.
Maybe facts are getting in the way?
I specifically said I thought Dez was significantly better. But the production...which is a huge part of this...was very similar.

We could have Maclin and Murray for Dez' demand or Cobb and Murray.
