Of course this is written by Taylor, who was writing articles every other day about Garrett's "hot seat" until about halfway through last season.

It's a turn on a dime, for sure. Doesn't matter. Garrett's turned things around in Dallas, and it was a huge job.

Anybody who wants to believe he's been a marginal player in that capacity is free to indulge in their fantasies. The writing has been on that wall from the day he took over.

Really good read by JJT.

Garrett has had an enormous impact on this franchise and its players.

ARLINGTON, Texas -- You would think Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett spends most of his time figuring out new ways to get Dez Bryant the ball or preventing owner Jerry Jones from releasing highly classified injury information.

Nope.

"I probably spend as much time on culture and team chemistry as anything we do," Garrett said Thursday before the Cowboys' final minicamp practice of the offseason.

You can see it in the inspirational messages and phrases on the large white boards that hang throughout the team's locker room, training areas and meeting rooms.

You can see it in the way Garrett quickly addresses issues before they spiral out of control, the way running back Joseph Randle's comments about DeMarco Murray "leaving meat on the bone" threatened to do a couple of weeks ago.

Garrett talked the matter out in front of the team.

You can also see it in the way he played down the notion of the Cowboys having one of the better offensive lines in NFL history. Garrett is about action, not words, and his team willingly follows his lead.

That should surprise no one.

Garrett has built a roster primarily of like-minded players, players who speak in monotones and reveal nothing beyond that they're trying to get better each practice, each meeting and each day.

If the mental attitude isn't there, it takes away from the physical ability . I think JG is sharing with this team , that aspect of his being part of our SB winners , and what Jimmy J brought to those teams.

B-b-but he iced his own kicker!!

And, and, Jerry had to neuter him!!

Garrett's basically just a cheerleader!

I see it as he has a mindset about what type of team he wants, including the mental makeup. He played under Jimmy Johnson, and studied under Saban and Johnson... and even Coach K (Duke BB) and has taken the aspects that he wants and applied it to his own coaching. It has really worked well.

IMO, the most difficult thing for any NFL coach to do is to get the attention of the players and for them to buy in to his approach. Garrett has done that extremely well. When he came in cutting old, expensive vet players that had been pro bowlers... every player knew right away that it was produce or be cut. Not only that but it was produce up to the level of your pay or be gone.

He has done a very good job since his first year, but he is getting better all the time.

IMO he is literally the perfect coach for the Dallas Cowboys, in large part because of the relationship he has with Jerry and how much Jerry trusts Jason to make the right decisions.

icing your own kicker is top ten stupid coaching moves of all time. btw i love my couch and i dont get paid to sit on it

Kickers historically become more accurate after a timeout.

Now don't you feel stupid? Probably not..... But you should.

Garrett has had some blunders in clock management. But so has every other coach. We just know about ours. I think, in this day and age, we should have a guy who does only that. Clock management. And relays the info as needed....

I love exactly what Jason Garrett is doing. I have noticed this culture change and Ii am sure most here have noticed it also. But I think it is coming from Stephen too....the FO as well as the Coaching staff have implemented a new "work-hard", "No-nonsense" kinda of culture. I really hope we can strike gold and turn JG into the leader young guys will listen to for years to come. Win a few SBs, and Jason Garrett might have a 20 year run as head coach for the Dallas Cowboys and challenge the success of Belicheater. JG is young. Obviously loves football, JG could be in pretty much any business he wanted to, he chose football. He is a Cowboy through and through. He will need to catch some breaks. Heck, even BB needed the "tuck rule" and Seattle trying to create a legend out of Wilson, to win 2 of their SBs....and a whole lotta mischief and cheating. (and thats just what we know about)

The reason for that was JG was calling plays back then, and when he called plays he was always looking at the play sheet not the game.
So he had no idea what was happening n the field and called TO when other coach said to.
He was also looking at play sheet at other times when he should have been looking at the game.
This is why jerry took play calling away, along with too much passing and some bad play calls.

I was anti garret as a play caller, but now that he doesnt call plays I am ok with him as coach, he is getting better in game mgmt.
LOL it it a process, eventually he will get there.

yes but none that would pay him 6 mil a year !! He has been making over a million per year since he came to dallas, got a raise to stay to then a raise as HC, then another raise on new contract.
His raises are in millions per year !

Coaching NFL now days pays more that any other job except ceo's and a few others.

That is a good point; JG isnt dumb.

I think you would have to love this game, to put up with the demands of being a HC in the the NFL....

Of course 6 million would help me love it even more.....:)

The whole "icing the kicker" thing is a myth. Sure, every once in a while, the guy misses after a TO, even though the majority of the time he makes it. Most kickers will tell you they don't mind, and that it actually helps because it gives them a free practice kick. But on the rare occasion that he does miss, it's because the coach "iced" him. Whatever. Bailey didn't miss that second kick because his coach iced him. Even he'll tell you he missed it, because he just didn't kick it right.
