why Vince Mayle? He couldn't catch a cold in Cleveland, much less a football. That one is a head scratcher for me.

He has great physical skills and took up football late after playing a lot of basketball. He may not do anything, but he is exactly the kind of project I want on the PS, especially with Dooley as our WR coach.

Wetzel is the head scratcher to me, when you first saw him last year he looked like he could improve into a decent backup but in this preseason it didn't look like he had made any progress since then. Hopefully I'm wrong, but he is the one I don't get keeping around.

Agree with you on both players. Also would like to see a potential replacement for OC/OG Bernadeau and FB Clutts on PS, perhaps Barrett Jones and Joey Iosefa, in the event of injury this season

Do you know if Barrett Jones is practice squad eligible?

So, this is Tuesday and the practice squad are the ones above plus:
Jordan Mills

He was probably a guy they had on their board as a developmental WR. Having him on the PS gives them a free look at a player with draftable skills and gives him a year to develop. I don't see how anyone can question the move. It's a no lose situation. If he doesn't develop, so what.

Evaluators seem sure that Mayle is a moldable piece of clay who can become substantially better as a pro with more coaching and experience. Mayle clearly needs work with some of the basic fundamentals for the position, but with his size and an ability to win vertically, he has a high ceiling. He might need a redshirt year before he is ready to contribute consistently.

PS. Looks like the Redshirt year will be on our Practice Squad.

Upon using my magic google search I see that Jones was signed by the steelers, seems he was a little lightweight in the strength dept to do full time battle at the center position, although he was all american at Alabama playing Guard, Tackle, and Center his demise is related to a Lisfranc injury(serious foot problem) and "lack of versatility" per the Rams fansite.

I've liked him for a while. He seems like a total team guy who will do anything you need him to. I was surprised a team with the needs the Rams have let him go. I would have liked to have grabbed him.

I agree with the attitude assessment, anything to help the team approach.

Gus Johnson, RB

Rodney Smith WR

Vince Mayle WR

I'm surprised at this list. I would have expected to see both Gibson and Shane McDermott on it and not Wetzel.

Showers is going to play like 5 different positions on the scout team. He is very athletic and they are looking for the right position to develop him at. He is the exact kind of player the practice squad was envisioned for. It is not guaranteed that he remains a QB.

It was stated on a different forum that Gibson would not be on the Dallas practice squad.

I also think he is going to be invaluable when we go up against a mobile QB. Moore can simulate a good pocket passer, but he is anything but mobile.
