Jerry has improved miraculously in the last few years, but he still gets stuck in stupid. The two latest:

- His affinity to delay drafting the Romo replacement. This has been going on for years. Weeden is laughable. If Romo went down it was curtains.

-This new dumb theory that because they signed McFadden that we would be "just fine" at the RB position.

Dont get me wrong, I was the #1 supporter of letting Murray walk. But to treat the RB position like they have this off season is almost blatant ignorance.

Maybe they thought, as some have said on here that we could simply "lean on Romo and the passing game more" and things would be "just fine". Maybe they didnt respect or quite understand the positive affect ramming the ball down the leagues throat with the run game had on the team and the SAFETY it afforded us.

In the first game we saw one of the big problems with relying too much on the passing game.............turnovers.

In the second game we saw the other............Romo getting injured.

I really hope this is addressed this upcoming off season. Invest a high draft pick in a guy, because hitting on a guy like Romo almost never happens but it seems like they've been hoping to strike gold twice up until this point.

You are still giving Jerry too much credit. By most reports, Stephen has more to do with player personnel now. He and McClay are supposed to be the brainchilds behind this resurgence of talent, which is arguably here in other positions. The Weeden project will be shown for all the world to see over the next few weeks. We will see if he is competent and has made strides. He looked like an okay bus driver last night and scored a TD where Romo didn't. Not saying he is better, just the facts. With a weak NFC East, he only has to let the pieces around him work and we can wind up still being in this thing by the time Romo and Dez come back.

I do agree that we need to be drafting his replacement, but not too sure his track record with drafting QBs has been that good since a while back.

They need to draft a QB, probably in round 2 or higher. Romo will be 36 next season.

Very few QBs historically make it to 40 and are still playing effectively.

can we at least wait to lose a game before crying about mismanagement?

Running backs are fine. Product of oline just like murray was. Imposed our will late in that game up front.

Its ignorance, nothing more. Short term thinking. Its like they dont want to waste a draft pick or roster spot because they would rather fill a short term hole for the present. Maddening. Well they can suffer now.

Whom do you think the team was in position to draft over the past 2 years? Maybe Manziel? If so, we wouldn't have Zach. Who else?

-This new dumb theory that because they signed McFadden that we would be "just fine" at the RB position.

In my opinion, it's too soon to tell. Until we crawl out from the fog of the ridiculous amount of penalties, and these guys start to gel again (they missed the entire preseason playing together), I'm going to try (as difficult as it is) to withhold judgment. I don't think last year was an aberration.

I think if the line were opening up the same holes over the past two games that they had consistently opened last year for Murray, we'd see both Randle and McFadden picking up huge gains.

The difficult part about our ground performance over the next few games is that opposing teams are going to stack the box and dare Weeden to beat them with his arm. It's not going to get any easier for the line or the running backs.

So far I think we have been just fine at the RB position.

We are getting production but the biggest problem right now with our run game is:

1: Predictability.

It's just toooooo predictable right now when and where we are going to run.

There is not much space to run into.

We are not seeing the giant holes that Demarco had to run through so far this year.

Something has to give though because if teams are going to play up on the run aggressively then I think even WEeden can take advantage of the 1 on 1 WR matchups.

Ok, well lets just call it "brainstrust".

I also agree we can still be in it, but our D has to get all its pieces back and be top 5. And it would sure be nice to have a stud back to roll out the run game.

This IS Tony's team. The team had a ton of needs to be fully competitive over the long haul. That was the best protection for any quarterback in the starter's role.

What, you would want a quarterback riding the pine before getting the likes of Lawrence, Gregory, Martin, Jones?

I know. It's getting ridiculously thick up in here. Everyone wants perfection. I guess the need for misery after two wins is comforting to the masochist in here.

Yah, umm.........our RB's are just fine for what exactly? Now I agree its more about the line, but these backs dont cut it. And certainly not if Romo is going to be out.

They have drafted QBs and they didn't work out so they have gone the veteran backup route as of late. You can scoff all you want but in their minds a former 1st round pick with starting experience in the league is about as good as you can get at backup QB. Every team but a handful is in the same exact boat if they lose their starting QB. I think they handled the RB situation just fine. Now, they just have to let the best RB they have suit up and play.

You can go back and do your own research, Im not going to do it for you. But I will just name one for you. Russel Wilson.

I don't see not drafting a QB as Romo's replacement as a management screw up. As another poster said, most likely would require a 1st or 2nd round pick and the perceived quality of those available weren't there. Further, Romo has probably 3 years left so if a QB was drafted last year, year before or 2 years ago, that player would have spent his entire rookie contract on the bench. This year or next year's draft, IMO,is when Romo's replacement should be drafted.

The QB position is the most important position in football. If I had Romo and Favre on my team, I would still never pass up on a QB I thought could be franchise material. And that QB would no longer be riding the pine now would he? :)
