I question the integrity of someone asking to give a 5 star review on a book they've never read. Not a good example for your kids if you have any. My words are harsh and you probably don't care about them but I hope it makes you think at some point down the line.

The Dark Ages grip the world in famine and war, but in the Kingdom of Veronia, situated among the free cities, land is abundant and life is cheap.

Fed by allies and armed with weaponry given to them by Leo’s brother, Bishop Jewel, the soldiers are ready for imminent war. Meanwhile, Bishop Jewel and the members of the High Priest’s Council wield faith to salvage their unraveling kingdom. But what they discover is that Veronia is the battlefield of a supernatural war—with biblical proportions.

Let's spell it out so its easy to understand: To write a novel and get published is an amazing accomplishment and I commend him for that. It's becoming more rare to see that kind of drive these days. A lot of young people would rather play video games. But he also asked for those who do not like to read fantasy/fiction to lie and give him a 5 star rating on Amazon. I can't condone that and to see you think that's not a big deal is insightful and disappointing. I imagine there will be more folks who feel like you and disagree with me. Which again would be disappointing.

It's not a big deal. Period.
You have asked someone to do something similar in your life I'm sure.

No biggie.

This is really cool, and it's something I have always wanted to do but always put off. So you published it directly with only Amazon correct? Basically wrote it and uploaded it with the cover art? I notice you also have a hard cover version, did you hire a 3rd party to print those for you?

It's pretty awesome congratulations man.
 
I've written at least 23 books in my head. My problem is I never actually write them down so they can be published.

Maybe next time.

Yes I self-published through CreateSpace and Kindle Direct. I hired a freelance illustrator to do the cover art. Took me two years, and five drafts to complete it, but in the end it was all worth it. If it's something you really want to do, I wish you the best of luck. Anything I can do to help you, let me know.

Kids these days!

In reality, there's an incredibly massive boom in (self-)published novels these days. More people write novels and publish them than ever before. By a lot.

More people have smartphones

I have a friend I met while I was stationed in England in the mid-80's. Honestly, when I knew him then I couldn't stand him. I thought he was about as arrogant as you could get but we worked together so I made the best of it. Anyway, years passed and through mutual acquaintances we became "friends" on FB. Every once in awhile he would post something about a couple of books he published on Amazon. One was a layman's economics book and another was a fictional book set in the Middle East about 1,000 years ago. I decided to purchase the economics book and I thought it was a great read. I never knew the guy had it in him. I decided to purchase the fiction novel and again, it was a very enjoyable read. I reached out to him to congratulate him on the two books. Not surprisingly he was flattered because my kudos were not solicited. We have corresponded multiple times since and I've come to really like him. He has mellowed a lot and we share the same views on most things and he is incredibly intelligent. I knew he was smart from the days we were stationed together. I never knew he was so creative as well. I used to think he was a square that took life too seriously. I've since learned I was wrong about him.

My point is my friend always wanted to write books but real life got in the way until he just had to do it. I once thought I wanted to be a writer but my talent is not there to make it enjoyable for others to read. I hope the best for you. I'm envious of nearly anyone who has creative talent.
