The Steelers have won THREE games with their backup QB and third string QB playing the majority of those 3 games. They also won those games without starters WR Martavis Bryant, C Maurkice Pouncey, LB Ryan Shazier, and partially S Will Allen.

They won the San Diego game despite this drive chart from their offense to start the game thru the beginning of the 4th quarter:

Punt (5 plays)
Punt (6 plays)
Punt (6 plays)
Punt (3 plays)
FG
Punt (5 plays)
Interception
Punt (3 plays)
Punt (3 plays)
Punt (3 plays)

Despite this putrid start from the offense, the Steelers defense still were able to hold the Chargers to 10 pts and get a touchdown off an interception. During Weeden's stretch of futility, we made every excuse for our defense's tired and deteriorating effort. I get it, if an offense can't maintain drives, the defense will most likely fatigue. That being said, it would be nice for once this season the Dallas Cowboys won some games solely on the back of the defense. Just once, I would love to see Brandon Carr get two pick 6's, Wilcox force a fumble and the Cowboys actually follow through with the 'No Excuses' mantra Garrett constantly preaches.

The Steelers did it, why can't we?

Only hope I have for the defense in regards to creating takeaways is seeing more of Byron Jones. He's the only capable playmaker in the secondary. Everyone else has stone hands. Also would like to see the defensive line particularly Hardy and Gregory with their length get their hands up if they aren't able to get there on the rush and try to deflect the ball and possibly get a pick of a tipped ball.

You answered your own question. How many turnovers has the defense got since Romo got hurt? Our defense should be better than last year. I'm sure that we had way more turnovers in the first 6 games. Too lazy to look it up.

They looked sick against the Chiefs Sunday. My brother is a Stealer fan and when we spoke before the games started he automatically wrote off the game. I said 'hey you never know' and he just laughed and said he hoped they were competitive.

Maybe the Steelers are more motivated because even the backups know that if they screw up, Tomlin is going to chew their arse out and sit them on the bench. Fear can be a great motivator sometimes.

Our head coach just claps and pats players on the butt after they crap the bed. They are about as scared of Garrett as they are of a small kitten.

Just a guess.

Well, two games. Rothlisburger played for most of the Rams game. In one of the games they were lucky with a pick 6 and a long breakaway touchdown -- otherwise they struggled to move the ball and would have lost going away. In the other, the Cardinals kept coughing the football up. Sometimes that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

I can think of 5 plays that if they'd went differently, we'd be 5-1 right now.

Garrett has been here nearly a decade. Only a handful 2 or 3 coaches have enjoyed more longevity in the NFL today. By now, you should have a system in place that doesn't heavily rely on one player. The last month has really exposed him and this is coming from a former ROMO HATER.

They wouldn't have those 3 wins if they also lost Antonio.

bottom line is teams should be able to win games with bkup qb.
They wont be as good, but they should win some of the games.
It does require out of the box thinking and good coaching.

Having the best all around RB in football come back has certainly helped. They are 2-1 since Bell has been on the field. That dude is pretty legit

I don't know why everybody insists our issues have been just at QB. We can't pass effectively because of the QB, and because Dez have been out. We haven't defended the pass effectively in some games because our defense has not been quite good enough to make up the difference and because we can't take the ball away. And then we've beaten ourselves with defensive scores or miscues on STs. The STs gaffes are the only things that I personally put on coaching.

That said, let's see where the Steelers and the Cowboys end up. NFL seasons are long, and they're not ever decided before Thanksgiving.

You would think so but this is a QB driven league and generally the team with the best QB wins.

That is true, but the key is to have a good bkup and coaches rework things to give that bkup a good chance at winning.
Cowboys have lost 4 in a row with bkup qb and that isnt good.
Ideally they should have gone 2-2 or at least 1-3
No one expects the bkup to be as good as starter, or to win all games, but they need to win some games.

We should've lost to the Giants in Game 1 when Romo was playing. A fluke brain fart gave us second life. And the Giants are a bad team. That means we're not much better than a bad Giants team even when nearly at full health. We haven't been a good team this season. The problem goes beyond missing Romo. No way we run the table when Romo returns if we don't clean up our act.

You look bad when you keep turning the ball over obviously but the Cowboys were whipping them them on both sides of the ball. And they were again beating them on both sides last week but could not overcome turnovers this time.

That's my point. It's been like that for years. We usually make far more mistakes than the opponent and that keeps them in the game. If we're playing a great team, the mistakes can turn what would've been a close game into a blowout. If we're playing a decent team, the mistakes can turn what would've been a win into a loss. And if we're playing a bad team, the mistakes can turn what would've been a blowout into a close game.

Neither Giants game this season should've been close. We should have easily won both. Instead, we lost one and needed a string of luck to win the other. We kept Atlanta and New Orleans in the game, which let them run away with the win when they picked up momentum. We could be 5-1, we should be 1-5, and we are 2-4. We make games and entire seasons way more stressful than they should be.
