New Marvel Netflix show. 12 episodes up, binging on it now. First episode pretty good, not sold on Ritter yet, she's not exactly gritty. Looks great though, sets a nice mood.

Just watched this. Thought it was a great series. Yet another huge win for Marvel!!!! I thought it was better than the Daredevil series which I thoroughly enjoyed also.

It's stalker/survivor theme is borderline Lifetime movie, but the show really nailed it as a noir-ish street level take on life in Marvel's NYC. Not really a superhero show so much as it's a show where the main character has her daily life, just happens to (barely) have a couple super abilities, and rarely wants to use them but ends up getting pulled in. There wasn't a singular scene that hooked me like the hallway fight scene in Daredevil, but I liked nearly everything about Jessica Jones.

That said, I'm more interested in a season 2 of Daredevil than a future season of JJ. I don't know where this character would go from here. Season 1 of Daredevil seemed like the start of a story. Jessica Jones seemed like a completed story.

These Netflix series are planned to feed into The Defenders, so that may explain the Jessica Jones ending feeling. Daredevil did so well that they've shoehorned in another season. I think the JJ series is very well done, but it is so grim and disturbing that I'm only watching an episode or two a night. And I like the grim stuff too.

Oh, and if you liked that Daredevil fight scene (which was great!), you should check out John Woo's Hard Boiled (Hong Kong action), where they have probably the best such a fight every filmed. Hospital fight scene. Amazing choreography and cinematography.

Or the Oldboy hammer scene.

Will binge this sometime this week.

Could I get some more comparisons with Daredevil to wet my appetite?

Or the Oldboy hammer scene.

Or most of the scenes in Raid Redemption lol

They might have even went over board because at the end you were like...dude really lol

Show got really sloppy towards the end.

The show really doesn't know how to shoot action scenes, almost all of them are really poorly edited imo.

Story is decent, characters are more or less well done. Worth watching if plan on watching all the defender shows etc. There is a tie in with Daredevil show etc.
I like how this show and Daredevil both at least tried to add some humanity to their villains. Makes them more believable in their roles.

I enjoyed Daredevil more because it was flat out excellent, but this series was very good.

Cons:
  • I was initially surprised that they toned down her and Luke Cage's powers that much. I was expecting cars to be lifted and some bad flying. But, after thinking it through it would actually make sense for them to not be Avengers level in order to fit into what they envision with the Defenders.
  • I am concerned about Trish Walker being in this show because of the potential for them introducing her as Hellcat. Fairly annoying character imo.
  • Might have been a few shows too long. They could have cut two shows worth of material over the last third and made a better 11 show season.

Pros:
  • I was not so sure about this show because I did not like the casting choice for Jessica and thought it would be hard to believe Doctor Who as the Purple Man. But, they both ended up winning me over early on. They were right and I was wrong.
  • I liked how they already set up Nuke as a future nemesis. He is a good villain for any one of these NetFlix characters (even though the only one he ever fought in the comics was Daredevil).

I thought it was okay. It dragged on. I had trouble getting through the whole series. I still don't buy Ritter in the role. Daredevil was far more enjoyable in my opinion and an easy watch.

What are some other good series on Netflix?

I watched Orange is the new black and I got bored after this season.

MArco Polo was pretty good.

I also watched Aziz Ansari's new show and thought it was pretty good.

Narcos - if you like shows about Pablo Escobar and his cocaine empire.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt - if you like goofy humor. Girl escapes doomsday cult and has to reintegrate into society.
House of Cards - political drama
Daredevil

Peaky Blinders - Think Boardwalk Empire in post-WW1 England.

Sherlock and Luther are really good also.

I guess I'm in the minority, but getting through Jessica Jones is proving to be a chore. I'm currently on Episode 11. I personally don't think it's anywhere as good as Daredevil. So far I've found the story to be somewhat boring. I still plan on finishing it though because I'm a fan of super hero shows, but to me it's worse than Daredevil, Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, Gotham, the Flash, and Arrow.
