Polian on Sirius Satellite Radio Yesterday

So his season last year didnt show hes a "Great QB"? Yet I hear analysts call Andrew Luck elite since his 3rd season and he hasnt accomplished what Cam has.

I also agree that Luck is not an elite QB. Now, his career trajectory appeared to be heading that way before last year, while Newton's did not until last year.

Even a stopped clock offers the correct time twice a day. A single good season doesn't make a QB elite. Being termed as elite is a respect moniker. Respect is earned over time by proving you're not a flash in a pan. Let him prove he is elite. So far he hasn't even though you are spewing the anointing oil like it's coming out of a fire hose.

Polian said some interesting things yesterday on Sirius satellite radio: Among the things he said:

1. Tony Romo is one of the "elite" QBs in the NFL. He says there are 8 of them (nine if you include CaM Newton in the discussion). He does not include Eli Manning in that elite group. He also said that Peyton Manning was one of the 8 he listed, so he doesn't count anymore so really there are 7 active and 8 if you include Cam. (We already knew this it was just interesting to hear someone in the media use common sense rather than saying Oh, yeah, Eli is in that group based on his two SB rings, etc.)

2. He says Elliott is definitely in the discussion at #4, and if you don't go QB with the pick at #4 or trade down ......that based on talent Elliot is the pick, like it is a no brainer, and a foregone conclusion.

I agree that Romo is elite. I disagree that Elliot is in the discussion at No. 4.

I give a tremendous amount of deference to the thoughts and opinions of Hall of Famer Bill Polian. His take on Elliott being in play makes sense and means much more than anything Joe Banner has ever said...lol

Oh I don't think there is any doubt Elliot is in the discussion at #4. You can't reject his talent even if you don't really want to take a RB @ #4. He always has to be in play, even if you're looking somewhere else.

/agreed

If Kiper or someone else said this, I would take it with a grain of salt. This guy knows what he is talking about.

No. I don't believe we'll take a running back at 4. I can see where QB would be in the discussion ... and the discussion will be is there any worth taking at 4. I can see where DE is definitely in the discussion ... with possibly Bosa and Buckner both being available.

However, I can't see where Dallas even considers an RB in the first based on McFadden's play and picking up Morris. If Elliot was far and away the best player in this draft and happened to fall from the top spot to our pick, then I could see Dallas being unable to pass on that. I can see no other circumstances, though, where Dallas takes an RB at 4.

Yes he is. You dont accomplish what he accomplished last year, and not be considered elite. We would trade any season Romo had for the season Cam had last year in a second.

I don't know about that. Cam had a career year no doubt. So did Joe Flacco a few years ago. One season is one season. Lets see it again.

We arent comparing defenses here. Most Cowboys fans say Romo is an elite QB, yet Cam's season last year was better than any year romo had.

LOL, Really, so you are moderating this thread of what gets compared...Maybe you weren't, but I was comparing defenses. Give Romo a defense like what the panthers had, he would blow Newtons performance away.

Cam is arguably elite. Sports media wants to scare you into thinking its racist not to call him elite. He went to the super bowl and he's elite at certain things. If reading a defense, audibling based on pre-snap defenses, and anticipating and timing where the receiver is going to be constitutes being elite then I wouldn't consider him elite.
This drives me bananas. Do you have some quotes from credible sources that say he can't do those things?

Give Romo this, Give Romo that. I can say "Give Cam Dez and 2014 Murray and this Oline"

All right, let me try it this way.

You have a running back who rushes for 300 yards in a game, averaging 10 yards per carry.

Is he elite if in all of his other games, he averages 3 yards per carry and less than 100 yards?

Now, extrapolate that over a career. Cam had one great season last year, which is fantastic. However, his other 4 seasons have been like that back averaging 3 yards per carry.

He's not elite because the pattern of his career so far shows him to be average. If he can build on what he did last year, he can turn that around and become an elite QB. One year does not a career make.

Brady, Romo and P. Manning are elite because they've shown they are among the top QBs year after year. In fact, notice that with Polian and with me that Manning held onto his elite status despite not having an elite year last year. He is elite because he earned that over his career.

You think just because you say that makes it true? Get the hell outta here, you're on crack. That isn't even remotely true.

In my opinion its true.

More regular season wins
More passing tds
More rushing tds
Same amount of ints in more games
2 playoff wins
NFL MVP
OPOY

Im a big Romo fan btw, but I can admit when another player has had a better season than him.

I hear what you're saying but it works both ways. Was Peyton Manning considered an elite QB last year? No, he wasnt because his abilities deteriorated to the point that he had to become a bus driver. Andrew Luck is constantly regarded as an elite QB, and how many elite seasons has he had?

Wasnt murray considered one of the elite RBs in 2014 when he had a breakout year?

What about Russel Wilson? He has been considered an elite QB by many after 2-3 seaons in the league.

Well, then go root for Carolina then. I am sure you will be welcome there with your man crush on Cam.
Oh, and Cam had Steve Smith for awhile, how did they do?
